sorry just have to rant....well yesterday was a tough day. im in hospitality and won't go into to much detail. but there are a couple of department manges here that are complete idiots. fat sloppy unprofessional...unfortunately the are mother and son...he is maybe 24.

so he start screaming at me in a meeting yesterday and she actually yells at me "SHUT UP"...pig defending her piglet. i ask them both calmly not to speak to me this way and they continue to. i now am getting a bit miffed and i say stearly to fat boy..."lower your tone of voice and DON'T speak to me this way" he jumps upi and throws his arms out posturing and say OR WHAT? WHAT ARE YOU GUNNA DO"?

i looked at the property owner and said i won't be treated this way(he said nothing to fat boy or mis piggy)...i got up to leave and the owner grabs me...i tell him LET ME LEAVE NOW...you want me to leave. so i left. came back in later when fat boy was gone and told owner if he speaks to me like that again I will handle it my way.

So i am considering just calling it quits, i will have to sell the 348 spider and some other toys but i will have my pride! so my ferrari ownership may be shortlived but it has been great and i love all you guys on Fchat! figure i can live for about ayear without working at all. cpuld sell my house and live for 5 years without working....soooo i will see how it goes.

Sounds like some of my former employees talking about me, except for the mom and pig part.

I would not let someone drive me to screw myself which is what you would be doing quitting. I would document any further outbursts and if you have an HR department make sure your documentation goes into your personal file and keep a copy for your records. I'd not be confrontational going forward and let any harsh words roll off my back...words won't hurt you. I'd MAKE them fire you if it comes to that and take your documentation to your lawyer, have your lawyer call them and tell them you want re-instated and compensation for unjustly letting you go. You'll have the last laugh and IF you have a good lawyer you may be able to sue for a nice sum due to unfair labor practices. Once they see you will play hardball if forced to be that way...I'd bet fat boy will be told to keep his cool.

There is no sense throwing away your job because there's an idiot in charge ESPECIALLY if it means loosing your Fcar. It happens man...lots of Aholes out there. They won't have a leg to stand on if you do it right...documentation is the key. Keep the car, keep your cool and be smart about it...you'll come out ahead.

It sounds like the owner is used to being browbeaten by this pair. Have you seen this behavior from them before, towards yourself or other employees? Was the cause of this outburst something significant, or just a power play?

I guess if it was me, I would go to the owner and say "Look, their behavior towards me in public is not acceptable. They can either apologize to me in public, in a manner that is acceptable to me, or you will have to make a decision. They go or I go. If I have to go, then I'll go. And the next time this happens, someone else will have to go. You need to put a stop to it, and you need to do it now."

Without thinking, I would have performed a SNAP KICK to the groin hard enough to lift him off the floor. Casually turned and said goodby on my way out, as the others watch him writhe in agony, never to return (unless asked).

    Good advice.

Look at the big picture, have a calm discussion with the owner and try to find middle ground. If you don't report to the loudmouths you shouldn't be forced to quit by them.

Let me get this straight - you are going to let a guy and his mother dictate whether or not you should keep your job, your house, and your Ferrari? What am I missing?

Start looking for a new job. Once secured, hand in your 2 weeks and be very explicit as to why. You keep you sanity, your F-car and your pride.

Quitting without another gig lined up ain't too smart in this day and age, especially in the hospitality industry.

I've had that pulled on me by Directors and Controllers.

Use these words: "Hostile work environment"

Those people are no longer there.

    I do their former tasks.

Why don't you consult an employment attorney. Just "talk" to one. Even if your company does not have an HR Dept., an attorney would tell you what you can do or cannot do. Why give up everything? That is what they are looking for. I wonder, just wonder, if you can be a royal pain in their side from now on and still work there? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm? It might actually make it fun working them for a change.

Go with wax's hostile work environment advice. Keep a level head at work until resolved and don't let yourself get into any more shouting matches with these buttheads or your boss.

Crap like this is one reason why I don't do the whole "job" thing anymore. I'd rather scrape by on my own than have to put up with people like that. It sounds like you have some money put aside, maybe you could use some of it to start something of your own.

this behavior has gone on for years and i finally had enough. when the owner didnt stand up immediatley i was like...out of that meeting. this kid failed out of business classes and his mom has never done any type of after highschool training. not that there is anything wrong with that. if you have common courtesy.

i went to owners wife and son today and gave them my 1 day notice. I NEVER have quit a job like that but my honor was at stake! i have been here for 8 years and save the company 100k+ a year easy. so obviously the begged me to stay and stated they ARE NOT letting me quit.(anyone can be replaced but i know my job and am very dedicated. even i quit i stayed to get 4 a/c units running for guest....would have been 3K in service calls in one afternoon! i m EPA certified universal technician for refrigerants) getting a new job or starting my own business is not a concern...but i enjoy what i do and most of the people

i made my point that i will not be treated with that lack of disrespect nor be threatened...

so now we have a meeting set up for morning... i said this is what needs to change in order for me to stay.

Let me say i did not do this for more money or to prove a point. i made this decision very thoughtfully. changes need to be made to further grow this company and that is what i want to see. bad people cannot dictate my life. i will not allow it.

Be careful if you decide to stay. You have them by the balls with this sudden action and by staying, you give them time to find another qualified individual to replace you.

Personally, when I throw in my resignation, there ain't nothing short of giving me $1mil that would make me stay.

    Good luck.

My thoughts also, anywhere you go can deal you the same crap.

There is no law saying you have to give 2 weeks notice, find another job and say 'seeya', it happens all the time.

I don't think anybody missed that, nor can one blame him for frustration. Did you miss the part about him needing to sell valuables in order to get by, as jobs are relatively scarce? In the meantime, why should he bear *that* burden, let alone daily grind when lesser minds created this hostile work environment? **** that.

Ideally, if one or two of the dingbats leave first, he and the owner will both have dark clouds lifted. The owner needs this wake-up call perhaps more so than the *nepotistic bullies. In any instance, our hero's not the one that needs to shape up. The rest are. If and when time comes, he can ship out on his terms, not theirs & keep his stuff and integrity intact. If they can't abide - the law is on his side.

**ahem* I wouldn't be surprised if mama writes the business checks . . . some to herself and her son, under aliases/fake business names/expenses, if not padding all either can. They're protecting something aside from their jobs.

okay lets be clear...I dont NEED to sell anything. i WOULD sell thing to make it less of a burden. if all a guy has is a house payment how easy is that! i could work at mcdonalds and pay my mortgage.

someone neededto have the balls to say enough is enough. this is the way it should be!

    so anyway....
they basically made it right in the meeting.

told this kid(in front of me) he was waaaaaay out of line and if it happens again he will be gone. i told them i had made a decision and it wasnt a ploy.I AM NOT THAT GUY.

so after the meeting the owner and i sat down. he agrees changes need to be made but high season is not the time.

i had some conditions and he met them for the most part...he has to fulfill them by next thursday or the deal is off.

and yes it does make it uncomfortable to stay after quitting but now if they fire me it is documented that there was a problem and not my fault. i have been here 8 years and have detailed knowledge of where stuff is and what makes it run...so yes i can be replaced but not easily. i work upwards of 24 hrs straight and am on call 24/7...i do not hesitate to come in when needed...basically i bleed for the property, i take great pride and ownership in it.
i dont drink or use drugs so when i get that call on a saturday at 11pm they dont have to worry that i am drunk and can't come in to do the job. pretty rare to find someone who is willing or able to do that in todays work environment...but again anyone can be replaced
