1994 348 spider . . . new owner . . . have an intermittent problem with the engine note changing, and a occasional stall, restarts immediately and runs "correctly" . . . assuming it's a problem with one bank of cylinders . . . trying to track it down.

Starting with reading the ECU codes, I assume. Just realized that I do not have a working "slow down" indicator lamp for 1-4 on the right side of the cluster. I've checked the lamps themselves, all in working order . . . all fuses are intact, and appear appropriate . . . all connections behind the cluster appear correct . . . can't read codes without this lamp working (?) . . .

I've been doing a lot of reading and looking on my348.com and am not sure where to go next. Suggestions?

Welcome to Fchat, post pictures of your car when you can ...
Both the slow down lights work with a different ECU (cats) and they are on for just a second when you turn the key. I would start by unplugging the battery and cleaning the contacts on both ECU's behind the seats. Then, keep the contact cleaning procedure going thru all the engine sensors connectors, don't forget the 4 under the air box. When you are done, re-plug the battery and turn on the engine initializing the ECU's. To do so, make sure everything is off, and let the engine idle until the cooling fans starts. If this fixes the problem, then you had a contact problem, if it doesn't, you are back to square one but at least you tried something inexpensive first. Good luck !

My car was doing this and it was a bad CAT ECU. Once I replaced the bad one, no more problems.
