I noticed when I bleed the coolant hot there is always fluid comes out, but when I let it sit to cool down even over night there is air sitting there, and then I loosen the coolant tank cap that pushes the air out followed by coolant. I have done that three times and still air under the bleeding screw. I assume that is the correct way of doing. But when air will get out of the system completly? How you guys do it. Thanks.

If the engine isn't overheating don't worry about it.

Every once in a while (4-5 weeks) I'll do a cold bleed. I just remove the pressure cap on the tank and then go to the rad. and loosen the bleed screw until water comes out. Then just close up the system and go on my way.

The only way I could get the air out of the system on my 328 was to leave the bleeder open when the coolant was intially put-in. If I tried to bleed the system after the system was filled I was not able to get all of the air out.

If the system is correctly bled when filled it never needs rebleeding.

Small amounts of air will travel around the system. It is normal and can never be avoided.

    Find something broken to fix.

I left the bleeder open when I filled the system. But where all this air is comming from. Theoritically after few cold bleed it should be air free. Any comments. thanks.

Some of you people are too neurotic to own an Fcar or any other exotic. How many times do you worry about air in the cooling system of your everyday car.......I'll bet never!

If the engine isn't overheating, don't worry about it. The laws of physics are no different with a Ferrari engine than they are with any other brand.

If you don't have a problem, don't create one.

    Sleep tight my friend!

I got the same problem. On the 348 , 355 it is a bit tricky to get every air out of the system because the pipes are mounted so high nearly on the same level as the water reservoir. I solved it this way :

Put water in till it comes out of the water reservoir. Leave the reservoir open. Start the engine. AC turned to hot that the watervalve is also opened the way through the heater.
Wait till the waterthermostat openes and the water is flowing through the radiators. Water level in the reservoir drops and i put more water in. Then i put a special pump on the water reservoir to get pressure on the system. Opened the two bleed screws to let all left air out. That worked well. The left air was forced out because of the high pressure i applied on the hole water system. Also nice i could see every leaking point so i can fasten the clamps on the hoses were small water drops came out because of the pressure.
Now its sealed with no air in it and the water temperature is steady on 81-84 °C even on 32°C ambient temperature and slow driving (<100km/h)

This is what I did to flush my coolant.

    • First I lift the car and unscrew the caps of the two radiators and just a small portion of coolant came out.
    • I connect my water hose at the expansion tank and let the water flush the system until it start to come out clean water.
    • I put back the caps at the radiator and fill up the system with new coolant; it only took me like two or three quarts of coolant.
    • I start the engine and let it warm up until it reach the operating temp or when the fans starts to operates and always monitoring the temp gauge.
    • I let the system to cool down and flush the system. Again only a small portion of coolant. When I saw that the coolant stop to drain and no more coolant was drooping out I took my air compressor hose with a custom cap I prepared and injected air through the expansion tank and all the remaining coolant start to get out.
    • I put the cap back at the radiators and fill the system.
    • Start the car for a few minutes and stop. When I check the level it was dry. I fill it up and repeat the procedure three times. It took me 3 1/2 gallons to fill the system again.
    • I also used a RedLine water additive to make the system run a little bit cooler.
    • I test the system for 45 minutes and it runs better than new one.
    • Next day I took the car for a hard drive and traffic jam and it was running better than a new car.
    I think I did a good job.
    I hope this helps.

Why don't you guys just use the "Air lift" system, it gets rid of all the trapped air and fills the entire system in less than 5 minutes.

A minute and half for professionals like you ...... for backyard hacks like us, takes 4 minutes just to hook up the compressor hose ...

Of, course, that's 4 minutes after the 4 HOURS of reading the instructions over and over trying to figure out how the darn thing works..... LOL

    Make that 5.... LOL!

Honestly I couldn't believe how well the system worked. Reading the instructions and looking at the tool I had doubt it will work. So I carefully made a mark at the bucket that contained all the drained coolant, and pour in new distilled water exactly to that mark. I was amazed to see the equal amount of fluids that was sucked back in.

I guess Sparky was right when he said "Some of you people are too neurotic to own an Fcar or any other exotic. How many times do you worry about air in the cooling system of your everyday car.......I'll bet never!"

Would it be better to have nitrogen mixed with the coolant rather than regular air?
