I think the Mercedes hyd. top oil works. I remember reading that a bunch of times over the past few years. "Johnsons" would make me skittish.

I'm gonna do that as soon as I get up the energy and have driven the car a lot. Freakin' crackhead Italian engineers. Go ahead, drive 170 MPH, but don't trust me to put my darn seats up before putting the top up and down? Then devise some Rube Goldberg system for it? How about getting someone who speaks ENGLISH instead of Italingleseish to write the US owner's manual while you're at it?? Would that be too much to ask?

    PS: Viva Espagna!!

You should write Ferrari's instruction manuals.

    hi there

my roof developed the similar same problem as described, and i could reverse the process after it would not 'drop behind the seats' stage, and close the roof.
checked obvious start points such as fluids and fuses to no avail.
the next problem was trying to find anyone here whom would consider the job!
finally, the guys at 'classic restoration' in alyth enthuisastically diagnosed and fixed the problem.
the rubber bands either side of the interior roof lining were well worn and lost most of their elasticity; this meant that the roof was not being pulled tight enough together after the 1st 'manual release' stage, which, they say the next mistake anyone can make is 'jiggling' the frame to help it on its way, as it can easily put it out of allign, causing further problems, as the micro switches kick in to prevent the roof from operating causing more damage.
they removed the bands, restiched new ones in place, and it worked immediately.
they then gave the roof mechanism a quick 'service' ( cleaning rams and all moving parts, check hydraulic oil, bleed the system etc ).
the movement is very quiet now, and seems quicker.
6hrs charged for all of the above work, and a clear run through of exactly what they did.
i think i may of been lucky regards to other roof failures, but i hope this may help someone in the future.
