I was always of the impression that you could clear the ECU parameters on a 360 by disconnecting/reconnecting the battery (most easily done with the switch in the front boot), and then could relearn by running at idle for 10 mins. While looking up some information on the SD-2 today, however, I ran into the following in the workshop manual. If I read it correctly, it is saying that you can only reset these using an SD-2. Does anyone here know if this is really true (aka: a misprint, perhaps)?

Who knows they would never lie now would they
why do you really need to reset that they do relearn on their own just fine
sometimes just clearing codes with a obd2 generic is enough on some cars
or it just resets the monitors

Most OBDII cars the learned adaptation will be reset and the test monitors will be reset just by clearing any fault codes with a generic scan tool.

So far most of the Ferrari's I have serviced will have the test monitors reset when you clear the codes with a generic scan tool but the adaptation will not be reset. I know this is the case with 355's and 360's. Can't recall on other OBDII equiped cars but probably the would be the same.

While using the SD2 just the fault codes can be cleared and the monitors that have run and completed will not be cleared. Also the adaptation will not be reset. The SD2 has separate prodedures for clearing the monitors and resetting the adaptation.

Using a factory scan tool on any make of car allows you far more diagnostic capability and flexibility than a generic scan tool. However I have found for specific types of data that find crucial for accurate diagnosis even the SD2 falls short. In those cases I go back to the generic scan tool to ger the info I need.
