My son and I are getting ready to head out for another day at the dealer's today. His little sister and Mom are in Madison, WI for some American Girl doll super sale and for some reason Nathaniel didn't want to go :D. I would imagine that is the closest to hell that a 10 year old boy can reach! So we're off to Lamborghini Chicago, Porsche, and Ferrari in Westmont. Maybe on the way home we'll hit Chicago Motor Cars too. Last time we did this, we ran across a Superveloce, a F40, a 288 GTO, and an Enzo so we're crossing our fingers. He's dying to see a Reventon and I would say no way but last time I said that we found the Enzo! I'll have pictures later.

Does anyone know a decent kid friendly place for lunch in that area? Nothing fancy or Dave & Busterish required, just decent food.

Just got back from a day out. Porsche didn't have a lot of interesting stock at all for some reason. They had just received some new Cayman S models for their race series though. Lamborghini as usual was incredibly friendly! It started out with a salesman taking a pic of us with a Balboni Gallardo. He chatted for a awhile and made us feel welcome. He even pointed out that they were working on Tony Stewart's Murci and that it was upstairs, causing my kid to about have a heart attack (big Tony fan). Another salesman stopped by to talk and gave my son a Lamborghini DVD and a Lotus keychain (for his future car, he said :) ). Their hats were on sale which completed a dream trip because my son had specifically said he was looking for one. Ferrari had some interesting cars, but definitely not the friendly atmosphere. There was nobody else in the place, but save for a cold "hello", we felt like we shouldn't have been either. The difference in dealerships was night and day. They may have been scared off by my son's black eye where his sister nailed him with a garden hose! It was a great day out though!

    - Well at least they let you down in the lower level showroom to take photos. Last time I was there, the stairs were roped off and I was told that this was to prevent people from leaning on their cars. I can appreciate their concern for the inventory, but it did make me feel kinda unwelcome.

    IMHO

The ropes were up for us as well. I asked the salesman if we could go down for a few pics and he gave the OK. I reassured him we would not touch the cars. They weren't "unfriendly" so much as they acted like they didn't want to be bothered. Kind of like when you go to a garage sale and the homeowner says nothing to you.....

Oddly, I got a similar response when I went to Continential to try and purchase a Ferrari in thier inventory. The attitude was sort of, "Excuse me sir, do you know how much that car costs?"

Interestingly, the Argento Nurburgring 550 parked next the black Scuderia on Friday seems to be missing ;)

Does Continental always have that many vintage Ferraris? Is that the one that was roped off and unfriendly?

I just picked the car up yesterday :D. So now it should be around Chicago for spottings and definitely running around at the Autobahn (unlike some Ferrari dealers in this neck of the words, the Lambo guys are both behind you and supportive when you want to track your car).

TJ, I heard about that. Yikes!

When I was at the Nurburgring recently, the race shop I rented a car from had TWO 2-11's that were in pieces. That thing is a tricky son of ***** at the limit. I'm surprised we went as long as we did without any more trouble ;).

Tell the owner of the silver car that having a 3 psi different between front and rear, like 24 front, 27 rear, makes the car a lot more stable. It's almost undrivable loose if you go with the stock psi's cold.

Carsleuth, I'll post some in this thread shortly.

I always receive a much warmer welcome with or without my four kids when we travel to the Lake Forest Ferrari dealer.

My first trip to their location restored my faith in Ferrari dealers after stopping in at other 'locations'.

They are always friendly, knowledgeable, and go out of their way in sales and in service to help.

I highly recommend taking the lad there for a day.

I've been there once back in the late 80's, so I'm due for a visit. The only problem is it's quite a drive. He has been begging me to take him to the place in Chicago that has a Veyron so we may have to try and get out soon.
