If I believed in the devil, I'd have to conclude that Bernie is the devil incarnate.

Hey Bernie, there is such thing as a reasonable profit. The idea that you can get more in the short term by destroying the value of your product is not just stupid, it is evil.

I seriously believe Bernie wants to build the nominal value of F1 as high as he can, while destroying the actual value, so that when he pops his clogs the whole house of cards tumbles down. He wants people to weep, gnash their teeth, rend their garments, and connect his name with some illusory "golden age" of F1.

Sorry, Bernie, not everyone is so thick.

This is why I stopped watching F1 after the 2007 season. I suggest others do the same.

    Note to Bernie:

F1 needs Monaco more than Monaco needs F1. That's why they pay less.

I'm not sure I agree. There is only one sacred cow in F1. That is Ferrari. Anything else is expendable.

Bernie is only looking after money, so monaco (and some others) should pay!

but in the same time this f.... peasant lost half his fortune simply because he was not able to take care of his wife, so what, really silly situation for this sport in the hands of such personnage.

Crazy world, I still not understand how some very large companies (toyota, gone, BMW, gone, Renault, more or less gone, Mercedes, what a result, ferrari -fiat-, ...) are able to listen this guy and not react!

I agree with that. Bernie needs to view Monaco as a loss leader, though I doubt he's actually losing money by visiting Monaco every year. It's the only race on the calendar that resonates outside the walls of F1 fandom, and it provides some much-needed character and personality to a sport that has been overly sanitized the past decades.

    Bernie being Bernie.
After all this time anyone who takes what he says at face value just hasn't been paying attention ;)
It is impressive how he knows just what buttons to push though.

I am making my first trip to Monaco next year, and this is exactly how I see it (as Mecca) for F1 fans. Beyond that is it Monza and Silverstone? Boring or not that race is F1, and without it I may as well be watching the Indy series.

Why not just abandon the entire continent Bernie? There are plenty more sheiks out there for you to bilk.
I wonder how Prince Rainier will phrase "go F yourself you doddering little troll"?

Is there anything in the agreement between F1 and the teams to prevent them from participating in a vintage exibition?
Perhaps Monaco and others being sqeezed by the little rat could host a vintage event where consructors would bring previous year's cars(2002) and have "vintage" drivers on hand as well. They could have open qualifying sessions with grenade motors, teams could select their own tires, refuel, change motors.....

Why shouldn't Monaco pay just like every other venue? Monaco likely receives more tourist dollars during its GP that most if not all the other venues on the F1 calendar.

Because F1 needs Monaco more then ANY OTHER VENUE.
Monaco would survive without F1 easy, not the other way.

Without history there is no reason to really look forward to anything. As boring as Monaco may be the fans love it, and it has become a great success for the promotion of F1 worldwide.

And if they did that F1 would be 100% dead and fighting for its life like Indy years back, you can not tell me that the IRL/CART split was good for Indy.

there were empty seats in the stands in monaco this year and last. there were 'for sale' signs on mega yachts.

i tend to agree that monaco is a necessary venue for f1 to retain glamor, but greed is bernie's number one driver, and the up and coming parts of the world are prepared to bribe him untolled amounts to get a race on their little piece of desert or jungle.

this is something that affects every aspect of our lives....the center of economic gravity has shifted east, and the west is no longer able to set the tune or price. our time has gone, and bernie is just responding to it.

This is the classic case of Bernie trying to make himself more important than the sport. Dropping Monaco would be like the Triple Crown saying they were gonna move the Preakness to another track because they can get more money. What if MLB said hey I know the small market team that has made it to the World Series is a really good story but we are going to move the games to a different city for more cash. Sorry money is more important than the game. Man Bernie sucks!!!!!!! I'm sure it's just him flapping his gums so he can hear himself talk but he is a total jackhole.

Let's face it, the sponsors (you know, those folks who ante up the big bucks) want to be in MC, so yes, F1 needs MC more than MC needs F1, but Bernie knows that- he's just posturing, as usual. Frankly, F1 needs MC a lot more than it needs Bernie, who's about half as bright as he thinks he is.

Monaco will not leave F-1... they will pay bernie off... and or he'll just leave it alone. He cant afford not to have Monaco on the list... think of all the corporate sponsorship etc... that goes on there. I'm not sure everybody wants to go to Abu dabi or where ever... Monaco is the jewel in crown for F-1...

Monaco can always host indy cars, LeMans cars, etc....

Or it has nothing to do with Monaco at all.
Bernie may be sending a message to some other track(s).
    If Monaco isn't safe...

Greedy is the word anti-capitalist use to explain why they are not as successful as the one they claim to be greedy. From dropping out of school at 16 to sell spare motorcycle parts, Bernie has done quite well IMHO.
