Hi all, new battery was installed less than a year ago. Car spent most most of the winter sitting in my garage. Battery was completely discharged when I tried to start engine 4 days ago. I charged the battery through cigarette lighter for two days until charger indicated full charge. I went for a spin today and noticed that power was a bit low when I started the engine. She was quite dirty so I took her to carwash. After wash was completed, she wouldn't start because battery was discharged again. We had to jump start her at carwash place. I drove for a couple hours hoping that would recharge the battery. When I came back home,I stopped the engine and tried to start it again. Unfortunately I had to insist quite a lot before I got enough juice to start the engine again. When I stopped the engine,I noticed an unusual "hissing buzzing noise" coming on and off from the left side of engine bay and that lasted for a while even though engine was not running.Any idea what that noise could be? Is it possible that battery needs to be replaced again although it's less than a year old? Before taking her to the dealer, does it make sense to fit new battery in and see how it goes? Advice greatly appreciated, especially knowing that dealer and specialists will be closing for august vacation in 9 days. Cheers from Paris
Battery in cars do not like to be totally and deeply discharged for a long period of time. I am afraid that is what your battery did when you put the car away. When I don't drive any of my cars for more than a week, I disconnect the battery OR I connect a trickle charger to the battery. I think you need to replace that battery again.
Sounds like you need a new battery. Once a battery is completely discharged it usually will not hold a charge.
Put a battery maintainer on in the off-months. Battery could have become frozen over the winter and sulfated. I have cars I store for 5-6 months with maintainers on them. Some of the batteries are 10 yrs old and operate as new. Every time you let a battery completely discharge and then recharge it, its usable life is shortened.
