This is my civic. The mods done are an added k04 turbo pushing 1.4 bar with an upgraded 2 rail fueling system and ecu(not a bad way to spend 10 grand). Complete aftermarket intake and exhaust systems. Forged rods, crank, lightened flywheel. Stage 3 clutch. 150 shot of nitrous. Kani adjustables with 2lbs per corner. Aftermarket adjustable spoiler. CF body work and gutted interior. Plus many more. Total cost of the mods alone is around $30k. Plus the cost of the car and we’re talking $50k
Anyway, all this ads up to an 8.3 second quarter mile and 617HP. I destroy GTR’s, corvettes and 2 lambos light to light. I could probably run from the cops if I wanted. Why would anyone spend $200k+ on a car when my civic would destroy whatever the communists(read Italians) could build?

Great first post. Yep - I'm a total sucker to own a Ferrari when I could have had... well,
that thing in your picture. What was I thinking?

I'm taking mine out of the microwave now. There should be a registry where people who make posts like this never be allowed to buy a Ferrari.

    So, your question is:

    And, I think it's a valid question.

I think the answer has to do with understanding the true essence of Ferrari...and Italy...

I was at the Ferrari factory in Maranello three months ago... I have also be in Japan...

Worlds apart, my friend... world's apart.

It's not about 'light to light' ... and if you don't understand that, then you are much better off in a Honda.

Honest answer: there's absolutely nowhere around me to use 700HP, so who cares? For me, it's about the style of the car and the feel of it. My Ferrari gets blown off by a minivan from light to light, but it's all about the back roads and the twisties.

    OK, I'll play.

My ferrari in 35 years old. I haven never taken it to it's claimed top speed of 150 MPH. IIRC, the mags at the time indicated a 0-60 time of about 7 seconds. A modern day minivan/suv will out perform/out handle my car.

But, I'm willing to bet that my car is a whole lot more fun. I like the sounds it makes, the smells (mmmm, gasoline and oil). I like the way it looks.

    Basically, it makes me happy.

That's what it's all about. Some people will spend $20k on a watch, some will spend $500k on a car, some wouldn't spend that much on a house. Everybody has something that makes him/her happy.

    My car makes me happy.

(Plus, I only paid $18k for it 8 years ago).

MOST Ferrari owners don't buy Ferraris to be the fastest car on the road from one
    red light to the next.

My Mercedes E350 V-6 has more HP and torque than my Ferrari - by any metric you
    may wish to use.

Except for the MARQUE. A Ferrari is a timeless piece of beauty - if I wanted to be
the baddest fast-ass in town, I'd get a Veyron.

If you're just all about raw HP and all that... I'm sure you're Honda is a dandy no doubt.

Me? I'll stick with my lowly Ferrari 328 and just let you scream past me at the next
change of lights in your Honda.

    :)

Well, he did come back in for a second post and put up some data... I think Mike is
right - it is a valid question and the OP is taking the time to respond.

At the same time, why post this in a Ferrari forum unless the intent is to "rustle feathers"?

Bragging rights for a car like **that** belong in some ricer or tuning forum... not here.

But I took the time to give MY answers...

OMG! Just think of all the years I spent admiring and aching for a real Ferrari, and finally the life affirming satisfaction of having one, and then driving it everywhere with a huge smile, and all the time & money spent keeping it running purr-fectly, all the joy it has given me in so many ways.

    All wasted.

All destroyed in an instant by this guy pointing out I could have had a civic instead.

    Silly me.

Dude, your car is only that fast because of what you did to it. If the money were equal, buy a Ferrari or Lambo and a Civic of the same year with no mods and see which is faster. A Ferrari with seats in it can still carry a passenger. You gutted your interior so your just stuck driving around by yourself.

You are so right on, don't listen to these other guys talking about "visceral feelings", "not about top speed", blah, blah, blah. In real life it's all about winning, and your car is full of win!

There is a car niche for everyone, that's the answer. Unfortunately, You can't buy taste.

8 sec car, I think he did well with the $5,000 dollars he has invested in his car.

You spent $50K on your honda to make it fast from light to light or even in the 1/4 mile. It's impressive, yes, but i have a $8k Yamaha R1 (with light mods already). It won't quite do 8 second quarter miles but, if i put about $2k or 3K into the motor (or even less), it would slaughter your honda.... Same principal? I paid less for something that goes faster than what you paid for?
I think owning (which i have had the pleasure of owning two) a Ferrari is not about the fastest car out there from light to light or quater mile. Or, in some cases on the track. There is a a passion and alot more involved in owning one of these cars. I think the other part to it is that you don't see them very often (as much as you see Honda civics)... But, the history (racing), heritage, passion, engineering, design etc that comes into a Ferrari, draws in many people. Plus, as children (most of us), dreamed of owning one of these beautiful red machines and want to fulfill the dream....
I think as we get older, the "logical" side kicks in and we ask ourselves that question as well. I have had Corvette owners ask me the same thing and again, its a matter of taste, passion etc..... I have heard one Corvette owner say, "I can buy 3 or 4 Vettes for the price of one Fcar and drive them each, a different day of the week." That is true too... All these are valid points and so is your question but it still boils down to many things for many different people... Buy what you like or love.... They all have 4 wheels, and clearly we ALL share the same passion by enjoying automotive engineering whether it comes in a $50K package or $250K.....
