I have a 1985 308 GTS. Everything was running fine until I cam out from lunch and the key would only turn to the second position. Would not turn far enough to start or activate the windows. Any thoughts?

it all depends on what you had for lunch...

turn the wheel a little bit, then move the key. sometimes the wheel lock can bind the key.

Do you have another key? Try that one instead. Maybe it got too worn.

    "Even put some WD-30 in"

Try the later version, WD40, might work better.

    Sorry, couldn't resist! :)

Agree with the advice to try a different key.

I have been through this twice before with my 1980 400i. Both times it was the black plastic electonic module on the backside of the ignition switch. It is wearing out. You will need to remove and replace it before it binds up permenently and leaves you high and dry in the most difficult situation. There are several threads on this(some by me). The module is available from german parts houses or BMW dealers. It was used on the old 70's -80's models and virtually all Fcars of the era. $100USD. Or go to your Ferrari guy and pay $250- $400. It is a project to remove the ignition switch from the dash/column, but see the treads on this. You CAN do this. Buy two switches beause they are becoming a sometimes out of stock item. I just plain got tired of this chore and by-passed the stock igintion switch by purchasing generic ignition switch and found a much more practical spot for it on the console. Also, if you go this route, make sure to leave the original key in the "on" position, or you'll just be driving in right-hand circles.. Hope this is of some value to you. If you need help locating the sources, PM me. Jacques

I went through the same thing this spring. I had to replace the entire assembly on mine and it was a very expensive repair. The work was tedious but straight foward. Hopefully you'll get away with just the electronic module.
