I'm sorry but I can't believe You, or anyone on F-chat values their time so lowly that they didn't feel cheated when the potential for an actual exciting racing moment (in an otherwise completely dull race) was stolen away from all F1 fans.

I expect more from a "race"... so although I'm not ready to give up on the sport just because you didn't like my post, I wouldn't call what we saw today a success for anyone who loves real racing. Today we saw "lawyer ball" a bunch of corporate people worrying more about liabilities than true sport.

 

It was fantastic. A 1-2 finish for my favorite team and the driver that is actually capable of winning the title this year from their main rivals got a win.

 

But at what cost? What cost to the driver who was robbed of a victory, to the team who has yet again spoiled their fragile reputation, and to the sport that is seeking to grow its fan base around the world?

Shameful really, but whatever - you don't care. You'd probably write the check for $100,000 fine if you could.

Nice opinion piece, but to the people that have a clue, anyone can see that this was the right decision to give Ferrari the best chance at the title. Besides, Fernando was obviously faster and with Massa locking up the brakes and driving erratically when ever FA got close, we could have had another Red Bull incident easily.

After FA got past he blew Massa's doors off. What would you have said if they took each other out and Vettel inherited the win?

 

I don't care about Massa, or about the race being killed for the spectator (it was boring after the third corner anyway), I care about the fact that Ferrari put themselves at risk of loosing all the points from this race (by disqualification via the FIA) ... completely stupid.

On the contrary, the did not put themselves at risk. When Alonso and Massa were dicing around early on they probably realized that this just wasn't going to work.

When I said risk of loosing all their points, I meant after disqualification by the FIA.

Maybe I should agree with you to make my point. Alonso was going to pass Massa.... as you put it in your quote above.

The problem is!... millions of fans invested two hours of their time to see that one spectacular moment in the race. But team Ferrari pulled the plug- "Sorry racing fans, it is far too risky to let such an event unfold on the track"

 

I understand your point but if this sort of thing just eats you up inside as a fan you should look elsewhere. It happens all the time in vary guises and even happened in favor of Massa in 2008 and in favor of Hamilton when Kovalainen moved over at this very track in 2008. There is no discussion, really...

 

Yes, I certainly hope the FIA will choose to make an example out of them. It is well within their power to do so.

After Ferrari and Alonso's comments about "Race manipulation by the FIA" in Valencia I tend to think they are not in the best position to be testing the regulations right now.

Face it, the reason this is such a big deal is because this forum is FULL of Alonso haters. Also, the British press is worried with how slow McLaren looks and they hate to see Alonso win and be back in the game.

I don't want the book thrown at Ferrari, I'm saying they have opened themselves up for this to happen. If they had said nothing and Massa had won, better than 0 points.

I'm also not sure if I have ever complained about post-race results meddling. If I had my way I would take a few WDC off Michael Schumacher even now.

I'd never deny my lack of love for either of Ferrari's current drivers. I wouldn't have chosen either one of them, especially not Alonso.

However, this disgust with the race result today was the same thing I felt when Rubens was forced to move over for Schumacher in Austria - and they were two Ferrari drivers who I supported heavily during their time with the Scuderia. So your argument that my comments are fueled simply by Alonso Haterade™ is false.

Look, if Alonso was soooo much faster then why couldn't he get the job done on the track like you are supposed to? Why did his teammate have to hand him the position? I've seen countless numbers of races where a faster car is stuck behind a slower car and they can't get the job done and that's how they finish. If Alonso couldn't find a way past then he only deserved 2nd place. It is a race for crying out loud!

I've also seen plenty of other situations where a brave and talented move was made to advance in the race between drivers who have no love or or obligations to one another and it didn't end in tears in all (or even most) of those situations. so why are you so adamant that it would have been the obvious outcome this time?

Simply put, Fernando should have raced Massa for first position if he felt he deserved it and if it was what he was capable of today. If that had happened I'd have nothing to say about the issue. I might even dig real deep and offer him congratulations for overcoming all the adversity he's faced over the past few races with a victory. Instead we get an invalid result and more reasons to dislike his methods of "racing".

You are obviously a little too dense to realize that Vettel was closing and Alonso was getting held up by Massa. Obviously Ferrari did not want to see a 3 way battle for the lead and a potential wreck involving both its drivers so it eliminated the possibility altogether, secured a 1-2 finish, and helped out the driver that actually has a chance at winning the title massively.

Like I said, I doubt you gave a **** when Massa was gifted a position by Kimi or Hamilton by Kovalainen because it didn't involve someone you hate. Had the Ferraris collided it would have been an uproar on here.

 

Also, the fact that you call for a penalty to be dealt to Ferrari is even more ridiculous since the precedent has already been set by the three prior incidents (and others) in Brazil 2007, China 2008, and Hockenheim 2008 in NO PUNISHMENT by the FIA for the exact same actions.

Honestly, the $100k fine might even be excessive...
