There are a few owners here that have what I would call on the lower side of middle class incomes. I have been in that group MOST of my adult life and I own one.

Like RifleDriver, GrayTA and others have said. It is all about priorities.

yes, get rich or die trying. So you're planning on going out in a blaze of glory at 35 before the aches set in?

Pshhh don't lie, you're a Wal-Mart Greeter on Saturday afternoons lol. A mean one in a wheelchair at that. Even though I've seen you get out of that wheelchair plenty of times to chase down would be shop lifters.

Can you rephrase so I can understand what you are trying to say? ...... Sorry. Nothing you mentioned fits my profile.

The way I read it you are planning on life beoytch-slapping you and dying at 40 or earlier? Really, I don't understand.

havent read the whole thread yet, but wanted to add something.

    i am an aircraft mechanic.

    some college.

have owned 5 Ferrari's, and several other exotics amongst the cars that have come and gone.

i am single, and *could* buy a modern wizz-bang sports car, but i *choose* to buy old, slow Italian cars that evoke a passion in me for a great age of cars that i can relate to as an adult in the thirty-something range.

there are much better, much faster "cars " out there that i can easily purchase.

but i dont want any of them.

Dammn it Glassman, i'm gone for a couple of days and this is the crap i return to!
One more outburst like that and i'm sending you to hamsters.com...for a week!
No FerrariChat for you! Is that what you want boy?! Is it?!!

Ha Ha!! Just kidding of course! On behalf of the most regular folk here i would like
to thank everybody for their great responses. This is an important thread since
it deals with the basics of ownership and as they say: you always go back to the
    basics.
And yes, it has been said: the search function is your friend...
Having said that, new learning episodes happen every year and old untold recollections
    are always appreciated.

BTW Glassman, great story on your Jags and Datsun.
And yeah Jon, thank you for stealing my counterespionage idea!
You knew i wanted to be Bond, you knew it!

    Saludos Ferraristas!

this is the genesis of our quest to get to the fountain of youth ;)

I can assure you it's not a pipe dream. Cynthia Kenyon has already succeeded in creating C. elegans with lifespans of 500 years (in human equivalent years) by altering one chaperone gene, daf-2 here's some of her cutting edge research

    http://kenyonlab.ucsf.edu/html/publications.html

before people here start saying it isn't possible bla bla bla. I ask you to please review the research, and come to a logical conclusion. And before you brush people like Aubrey or Cynthia off as quacks, also note that Cynthia will probably be up for a Nobel prize for her research ;)

Lots of regular career people own Ferraris here. I don't tihnk the crowd I hang around with (from Fchat) are concerned about what anyone does for a living. Our most active Fchatter works for in the wireless business, several architects, a few mechanics, an FBI guy, a couple doctors, some retired police. We have a good mix, and it is not the Grey Poupon crowd that you might expect at all. Things might be different where you live, but I doubt it.
Get a decent driver and enjoy it!
    :)

    Stop blowing my cover!!!

(I'm a pirate-hit-man-drug-dealer-spy...I only carry one weapon: a DPMS-308-double-edged-cutlass-nasal-straw-cyanide-pill. I would also consider the male prostitute or porn star options, but there's just too much publicity there):D:D:D:D

With a screen name of "unkindone " - I'm not sure I want you on my healthcare team! Just sayin'...:)

I live by modest means and made my choices in life so as to be stable financially as soon as possible. I found myself in my early 40s (not married, no kids, home purchased, good job) and that I had done pretty well for myself. Did some research and pulled the trigger. If you can do it comfortably - not have to eat Ramen noodles every night, live on the street, mistreat others in your life, etc. - then do it. But do your research and be prepared for the eventual repairs and expenditures we all have to face with our toys...
