Daniel - I need the 'hard line' which goes to the rightrear wheel. It's part # 162757 (or 165286). I severed the line while attempting to removed the old hose that runs to the caliper (upgrading to stainless steel hoses similar to the ones you mentioned/pictured).

Pretty sure this all happened because my tinfoil hat was not pyramid shaped and lacked battle-horns.

    No.

You need to make a DIN flare. Plus we were making the damn thing wrong any way. The instructions that came with that thing didn't explain it very well. Not that we read them in the first place. LOL!!! We first needed to make a bubble flare, and then turned the bubble flare into a DIN flare. But even that would have been wrong because we kept trying to make the double flare.

The pics below have examples of the different types of flares. So if you go to just make a line out of the new one you bought, make sure it has the D I N flare on the end. ;) I would just take what you have to a brake shop and have them flare it for you. That way you don't have to go hunting around for the right tool, and it doesn't get hacked up the way we were Stooging it.

A few more pics showing the differences, and why you were leaking like the Titanic on the way home.

Top two are of the bubble flare, and the DIN fitting.
Bottom two are of the double flare and the double fitting.

We were tryin to make the double flare work with the din fitting = leaking like a coffee filter.

So again make sure you use the DIN flare. Now that I think about it, we didn't have the tin foilhats on when we were trying to make the flares did we? Hmmmmmmm??? Maybe that was the problem? Hahahahahaaa. :p

Found this link that shows how we SHOULD have been making the flares. http://forums.mg-rover.org/showthread.php?p=3719237 Man did we have that all goofed up or what! But hey that's Stoogin it!

Couldn't we have just put a ball of JB Weld on the end of the tube and poked a hole in it with a small phillips-head screwdriver, then honked down on it?

    E,
I do not know what you were trying to make but it was obvious to me we needed the bubble as on the broken piece. We knowingly had the wrong tool trying to make it fly. You got close he drove 125mils on thatleaker.

Guess we could have? But then how was Rick gonna get that sucker off once he got home? Maybe we could have used the old hose line, since he was gonna replace it anyway with the StopTech.

Lmfao. Moe and Curly at it again. Thanks for Laughs as I roll down the highway on vacation. I will get after the brake line fix next week. Good call on the type of flare ... Would have sucked to get it wrong twice. Btw, it leaked more like the SS Minnow than the Titanic. :)

Maybe I need to be educated.
Driving a car with a broken brake line, any car, 100 miles is probably one of the dumbest things I have read.
And admitting doing it is more disturbing.
So sad, good thing the car made it and nobody was hurt. Could have easily had a different outcome.
And with all the H.O.A's, how do they allow oil changes in a driveway?

You saw the part that broke off the car didn't you? Call it whatever you want but that is the flare needed. Maybe that's why you had to drive over in the BMW instead of the ferrari? OMG, I think he is going to PEE in my beer for sure now.

The line was never indanger of bursting and brake systems are built with crisscross redundency so if you loose a corner you still got brake but you can't race on the the things. There was no danger and Rick made it all the way home and never had to fill the brake reservoir. So how dangerous is that. The risk was going to be getting air into the lines and having to stop to put in more fluid. Getting home was never an issue. What is dangerous is not knowing. One thing stooges know all to well is when you can use a nail instead of a cotter pin. We all know cotter pins are best but.....you need to spend sometime on a race weekend and see all the crazy tings we do to keep our cars in the race. And in palos verdes we ain't got no stinkin HOA's. Besides an HOA doesn't scare me. It a WIFE you gotta worry about.

I wanted to say a big Thanks to Daniel at Ricambi for the oil change kits.
Unlike that pretty white hat that saw no work, my Ricambi hat got down and dirty!

That's a great post, Jeff. We owe to Daniel and Ricambi who never hesitate to step up with support for our Stooge events, however crackpot they seem. ;)

Don't worry folks... we can do it again with free oil kits whenever gather enough people. Hopefully the Hill Engineering tool made things easier, and Vince didn't just pocket the damn thing for his own car!

I'm not sure I'll sponsor a "clutch change party ", but I'm open to whatever ideas the brotherhood might have.

Shhhh, Daniel, I was hoping no one noticed my slyly pocketing the tool as the gang skulked out of my driveway. ;) It was a HUGE help since it is apparent that only wrench gorillas are allowed to fasten OEM oil filters at the dealer!
