I've got a bunch of marker lights and my car just got the holes welded over. If you need new lights, I'll make you a great deal on a set of 7. 4 brand new and 3 used.

Howard, where can I read about this paint that takes 4 months to cure? I've never heard of this before. I have heard that auto paint can continue to harden for up to 6 months, but never of a type of paint where the car needed to be stationary for that long....crazy. How do you keep dust off of it for 4 months?

Art wasn't happy with the second coat of blue so he laid in a third coat before applying three coats of clear coat as well.

It's drying now and looks great even before the wet polish and detailing.

Bigodino, Now that we have final coats on and the clear on top you can see the final color which I think is much brighterer than Blue Charo (which I had considered).

I'm very happy with the job so far and like the body colored targa top

They painted the door latch blue as well so I could decide wether to stay blue of go with black. I think it looks more modern, my 328 had the body colored latch in the door which I liked. I'm leaning towards staying blue right now.... Thoughts?

They will be doing black trim pieces tomorrow including the pillar between the side windows, center stripe, kick panels, and louvers behind headlights.

We are going to let the paint cure for a week and a half before doing the final wet polish and detail job so I'll post the last batch of photos then.

This wasn't a concours job but I think is perfect for a driver (96,000 miles)

    Thx for all the feedback
    -Brian

PS The only down side to this has been that after seeing the car with the front bumper removed I can't wait to replace it with the Euro version and the interior looks like crap when compared to the outside ;)
Four more months and I will have saved enough to do the bumper -LOL

I like the color, can't wait to see it all buffed out. Are you going to paint the stripe around the car black again? If you are, please take a before and after pic.

I don't need no stinkin' accessories. I've got a steering wheel, tires and an engine :)

Of course I also think that if you have a bad syncro you should keep driving with just the odd gears.

PS black stripe going on tomorrow

I have the blu chairo, and looks very close, so of course, I love this color. Three things.
    1. Before painting the kick panel black, make sure you really want to. I see you have the deep front spoiler. With the regular US spoiler, the black flows well, because it sits below the spoiler. But with a deep spoiler, you have black down low, and then you look at the front and it is colored down low. Take a look from the side and decide for yourself while you still have the option.I've seen painted and unpainted kick panels from the factory.
    2. It looks like they have some over-spray on the ac condenser. It will reduce already poor ac performance if you have it working. you might try to take it off, as it probably isn't bonded very well anyway.
    3. The roof does look nice. I agree that the gtb looks better, and this is the best way to copy the look and still have the open fun of the gts.

Chris, great point on the under door stripe not matching the euro lines.
I just called the shop to see if they had painted that black yet as I had previously instructed. Unfortunately they had painted it a this afternoon :(

It will still look good though...

Sorry guys I'd PM'd the price to somebody already and though I'd already posted it.

I'm paying a under 6K for this and think that it is a fair price.

Anybody in the area that wants to see the car and get contact information for the shop, please PM me.

PS I hope to be at the Concorso in Monterey next month as well.

    Regards,
    Brian

    Brian,

The car looks great! LOVE the color as well. Someday, I'll re-spray my GT4 and it will be done at a shop like the one you chose. ;)

Looks great!!! I love these threads; esp when it's a "budget" redo.
I'm taking my 308 to a guy this weekend to see what he thinks it will take to cut, weld and paint it.
I'm also on the fence as to whether to paint the top and go for the GTB look. I love it, but also like the stock look. . . . . decisions, decisions...

When I called in yesterday to see if they had painted the low portion of the car black yet (stripe beneath the doors) they thought I meant the muffler cover which they did touch up with some basic black rattle.

Turns out I can keep the entire side of the car blue!
Thx for the suggestion Chris, I like that part body colored when you have the deeper spoiler.

They are putting trim pieces back on today so I will try to get quasi final pictures tonight before I head out of town.

Glad the side paint worked out. Give us a full side view when you can.

As far as door handle. Here is my thought. On the gtb, the B pillar is black, and the handle is near invisible in black(good). On the stock gts up to 1983, the B pillar is also black, and the black handle looks very good. You have had your A and B pillar painted like an 84 or newer, and I think the style works either way. I think black might look slightly better, but I would have a hard time painting it too, since you can always go black, but it would be hard to go back to blue.

I say leave it for now and see how it looks with the car back together.

+1. I vote for black door handles, but no going back to blue at that point. Leave it blue for a while, see what you think. Maybe tape one over with electrical tape and decide which side you like best. I just had mine powder coated 60% gloss black, but before that I painted them with SEM trim black and I thought they looked great.

Did they take the engine bonnet louvers off? I don't see any pictures of the engine cover...how did they ever manage to tape/paint around those?

I can't believe they went bare metal and taped off things like side markers, there is overspray on the fans and AC condensed. Looks good and no going back now. Base coat clear coat I take it.

I do not see any side markers taped off I just see the one during prep that they couldn't get off at the time.

If you wanted the door handles like that ok but if not that is unacceptable as well but depends on if you wanted them painted.

I would be pissed that they didn't take the 5 minutes to remove the front spoiler so they could paint it seperate and then mask off the nose of the car.

I would ***** about that overspray that I do not like.

If you have to remove the overspray I use product called citrus strip good stuff.

Man, I just got a 20-25k estimate for doing my 308 (show quality). Makes this paint/body job sound even better.

    Keep posting the pictures!!

Yup... I'm grinding and doing mine myself for now. Maybe pay someone for a cheap paint job; but I just can't justify it in my head. I could get another car for what it costs to do paint and body. I like Fastkarz way of doing it. If there was a shop like that around here that I knew of....

OK, here is my next paint configuration thought. Anyone consider painting their roof like fastcarz and having the 84 or newer A pillar paint style, but then painting the B pillar black? The B pillar would only be black up to the height of the window. That would really make it look like a GTB, since the GTB B pillar is black.

I think it would blend the front-side and rear-side windows together better.

What method did the shop use to get to bare metal? Chemical, grind, soda blast....
