Cigar Guys - Any Here?

The Oliva's are pretty heavy, and Complex. Great smokes. I've always liked the Dunhill Dominican cigars since I had my first ages ago. I typically prefer nicaraguans but Dunhills are fairly complex with a nice finish, very nice for a light cigar. Just stay away from the Signatures, those are TERRIBLE. The Trinidad 100th anniversaries are incredible. The more I smoke them, the more they become my personal favorites. Medium to heavy and EXTREMELY complex. DELECTABLE! The only other good Trinidad I've had is the Maduro and the Cuban Robustos, those are good. The rest aren't. I highly recommend the 100th anniverary.

For the person above who is a beginner, I feel your pain. Cigar smoking as a hobby takes alot of patience, it's all about PERSONAL taste. Start with the lighter smokes and head to the medium heavy ones. After awhile you will grasp what you like/dislike and that's when you can buy by the box without regrets which is the way to go. I like nicaraguan and medium to heavy cigars. I smoke lighter cigars too but they have to have a complex long finish, otherwise they're too boring. I'm big on the draw. If a cigar doesn't draw well then it probably wasn't put together well IMO. If I were starting today I'd pick up some Oliva Connecticuts and some Cusano 18s!

 

My best friend is really into Ferrari and also cigars. I saw this humidor in the Ferrari Store in Los Angeles. It is made of carbon fiber and really really beautiful, however I don't know much about cigars or humidors. Does anyone know anything about this product? It is about $1200 so I wanted an opinion before I bought it. I found a picture of it online.

I would never pay that much for a humidor that was not the size of an end table. But there is really no upward limit on the cost of the things.

 

I would never pay that much for a humidor. The best of the best shouldn't run you more than $800. I payed around $400 for my Atoll. The F Humidor is a cool humidor but then again, what does Ferrari know about humidors? It's probably a standard humidor covered in carbon fiber and a logo slapped on it that is not worth $1200. If you want a good quality humidor go to a respectable cigar shop and ask for an opinion. You should be able to get a better one for a fraction of $1200. Plus if your friend is big into cigars he would probably tell you you got ripped off on this one.

 

$1200 for an ordinary medium small humidor with a Carbon Fiber skin is pure insanity.
It has to be name hype marketing to even come out with one like that.

A nice humidor of a capacity of 100+ cigars can easily be had for $100 and I've seen some fine Rosewood and Cherrywood pieces with beautiful inlay work not much more than that.

 

Smoking a San Cristobal right now and not very happy. I had a few several months ago and loved them. I guess having many drinks can change your impression of a cigar, because this one is not anything like I remember. Unfortunately, I already bought several handfuls. We'll see how the next few go, otherwise they'll go into the pile that I give to friends that don't know the difference between Dutch Masters and a long filler hand rolled cigar.

 

What about it didn't you like? I'm a big fan but have to have a large meal before one. They will kick me on my ass if I'm not careful.

Did you smoke the original or the new sungrown variety? I'm not as much of a fan of the sungrown (lighter) flavor.

 

I don't know, just didn't like the taste of it. I had sushi and sake beforehand, and Coors Light during... that could have been the problem. I've had a few more since, and they've been great. It was the original San Cristobal.

 

Trying to come up with a worse combo for enjoying a cigar...

I know, I know... I wasn't planning on having a cigar that night, but decided to later on. And well... I should have left it in the humidor.

thanks to jr, i was able to enjoy a lovely oily montecristo #2 habana!

i met up with a small group of ferrari owners last saturday morning and there is jr back from the far east (no one travels like jr...trust me!!) with a very, very nice cuban surprise. i want to thank you jr in this public forum as you are such a solid guy! great friendships are bourne of cigars and ferrarichat!!

i could barely wait to get home to smoke it and when i did, i must say it was fab!!!

They should be around 4-5K.

 

if i'm not mistaken, they run around usd 7.5k ... but hold 1,000 cigars ...

 

I've been smoking Cuban montes again. I keep saying I'm going to age them but I can't help myself.

 

Had a montecristo white last night. Forgot how much I liked those. My humidors are well-stocked at the moment. Also have a handful of Fuente Between the Lines coming in soon...never had one before.

Got my little shipment in of the Fuente Hemingway Between the Lines. Never had these before so I'm expecting great things. Found a dealer that sold me all they had left (15 sticks) though he claimed they're not supposed to do that. Anyway, the barber-pole pinstriping is gorgeous on them. I'll post some thoughts after I smoke my first one.
Also got in a couple Opus X sizes. Montecristo 75th Aniversario. Padron Anniversary 80th year.
I've had all of these before so just was keeping my humidors filled to the brim.
