yup. But that's because a lot of people on here can't comment without leaving our their prejudice of one driver unfortunately.
How did he get screwed, his obvious disregard for the rule is the only thing that screwed him....how many excuses did he use at the post race interview?
The whole point being that the safety car is there at all. There is no need for a safety car unless there is a huge accident and even then there are flags and radios and boards to let the drivers know what is happening. They have always been used in the past and worked very well. If the yellow had come out in the area in question, then thats all that was needed today but it would have been a booring race but none the less a REAl race. The safety car is an equalizer and we all know it. When they started using it years ago in Nascar many in F1 said that it was a joke. But now that it is being used whenever they feel like it, its not a problem. The safety car is being used for more reasons than safety but some like yourself dont want to see it. It is an "Equalizer Car" and designed to make the races more interesting. Do you not wonder why all the seasons are coming down to the last race or two now? Why there are rule changes every month? Red Bull has been the fastest by far and should have the season wrapped up in August but they wont be allowed to. It costs MONEY. If you like that, then good for you but then I like a natural 34C cup in my hands, not a silicon one. Maybe its just me.
Yep, just you! Safety car is the Steward's call. They do err on the side of caution, hopefully. This was no "debris caution."
I think you make a good point Gerry, however, even when the yellow comes out no one slows down. I never did and no one does. With the spread of cars and how fast they are going the old way of someone running out to remove the debris is just far too dangerous. The only way to do it is to bring out a safety car. If you leave the debris out there you risk a potential incident. Just my 2 cents. Edit: Remember there was debris on the track close to the racing line.
EXACTLY. I've never listened to these people that spend so much energy talking about how "boring" F1 is. If you don't like it, don't watch!! If you didn't find today's race entertaining, perhaps you'd like monster trucks, takes far less of an attention span to appreciate. Shameful move by Michael. He's not a contender this year, but even if he was that was dangerous. I know it must be frustrating being in this position, and I think he would be in the Top 2 if he was in a Red Bull, but he's not. He's at a P4/P5 team, and he's more than a little rusty. Doesn't give him license to do what he did, though. He probably would have been better off to stay retired unless he could return in a Top 3 team. Vettel's youthful immaturity is MUCH more evident when he loses, what a sourpuss on the podium and press conference, reminds me of a child that is not allowed to eat candy before dinner. Brilliant drive by Alonso and for holding a superior car behind him---safely unlike Michael----for many laps. His consistency shows why he is #1 and Massa is #2 by far. Killer drive by Webber, who I hope wins the WDC this year after years of struggle. Keep at 'em, mate!!
Yes the yellow does slow the cars and if not they get penalized. They used to do it all the time. Remember that these guys are not dummies(except for MS today) and know what they are doing. By introducing more rules, they cloud the results and make it easier to manipulate the points. Just look at the last 30 years up untill 4 years ago. Many seasons did not come down to the last race, but now they even come down to the last corner (massa 2 years ago) and why is that so hard to see? I want to see real racing not a jerry springer set. Red Bull is faster by miles and yet they cant seem to get one guy into a dominant WDC lead. Why? They kill everyone in qualifiying and turn fast lap after fastest lap. But yet the points are still close. Keep your eye on what happens in rest of the season and you will see what I mean.
I cannot comment on the Vettel penalty however I thought it odd that he got away with the manner in which he entered the pits. Having diven over the painted and raised curbing a the last minute to enter the pit lane I would have thought would have been worthy of a penalty. Similarily, it seems a lot of the drivers are taking liberties with the painted lines that border the circuit. According to the rules outside of the painted lines is out of bounds however at every start half the filed is using the runoff as part of the racing line and the stewards seem to only enforce penalties when it is in the best interest of the show or whatever agenda they have that day. Lastly as an MS fan I gotta say that todays move was bogus. I respect the fighting spirit but the ethics of that move was just plain wrong. The FIA is well within its rights to make an example of him with a draconian penalty. People should not first get hurt before action is taken. Great drive by Webber though
It wasn't difficult. Ferrari's straight line speed is vastly superior to Red Bull's and THE ONLY area to pass is the long straight.
The race was a snoozer, as usual at Hungary. NASCRAP type SC which ended up manipulating the race. Alonso, good drive and lucky to hold off Vettel. Vettel, even with the idiotic safety car, pay attention and know the rules. MS, very classless move on Rubens. He did make his one allotted move, but went too far. He deserves a grid spot penalty for next race. Congrats Webber as it was great watching him turn fast lap after fast lap, not making a mistake, a victory hard earned. Alex
I don't think so. This time it was a bit special because there's a huge kerb there, but at a lot of races, you see drivers entering the pits without caring for the lines if it is faster. A rule preventing that would be artificial, as no one benefits or loses from not caring for the lines at pit entry, and it doesn't matter from a safety point of view either.
yup. The red bull is about .5 to a second a lap quicker, passing would be fairly difficult, especially on this track. Barrichello was barely able to get by Schumacher despite being 3 (THREE!) seconds a lap quicker. The only thing Alonso had to do was not make a mistake in sector 2. That's it.
You can't run a guy into the wall or off the track. He made his one move, but pushed RB too far. He deserves a grid spot penalty at Spa, at the most. Alex
Would you guys say the same thing if it was Hamilton.. Florian, consider some one else driving in the pit lane at the same time.
Maybe we didn't watcxh the same race. Atleast I didn't see Barrichello hit the wall, and when he COULD have run off track Schumi bowed off and gave up the position.
Nope, same race. He didn't hit the wall, but came too close. He crossed the white line. To me, that's off track. I'm a MS fan, but he pushed RB too far. Alex
