I agree with you completely. It's just that a little less $$$ in RB's warchest would be helpful to the team in red. Oh well.

They are in debt because they are building a factory for the road car so they can kick Ferrari's a$$ in the showroom too :)

"In May this year the McLaren Group, which owns the F1 team, took out a loan of over £40m from HSBC and this wasn't spent on fuelling its on-track title challenge. Instead it is being used to build a new factory on its site in Woking which will produce the MP4-12C and create 300 jobs. It is an admirable feat in the current economic climate and is a pretty big gamble to boot as it is the first time since 2005 that the McLaren Group has had over £1m in bank loans."

    F458 or MP4-12C? I know which one I would rather have. :D

Don't take this the wrong way but I've had a feeling for quite a few years now that Ron has developed a seriously unhealthy obssesion with "out Ferrari-ing Ferrari".

It's now gone from the race track to the road cars. It's as if he thinks it will make him a legend in the motor racing world, like Enzo Ferrari!.

I seriously believe that this obsession with beating Ferrari along with his love of the McLaren team/company was a major factor in the break up of his marriage.

Now it appears that Martin Whitmarsh has been struck with the same obsession:

I think building the car factory is a smart move. McLaren has an amazing racing pedigree and their road cars have been fantastic. The new one looks to be fantastic as well. 40mm pounds isn't a lot for a company with their bottom line.

I think it will be a big success for them.

Building things like this does cost money and its usually better to use someone else's if you can.

He 's going to have to come up with a Mclaren sourced engine to do that. Even Enzo Ferrari stated that you buy his engine and get the car for free......just saying

Don't get me wrong, I think the Mclaren road cars (especially an LM!) are absolutely fantastic, but to me the biggest problem is Ron Dennis himself. I read something about the MP4/12 something or other the other day and the anal obsession of him is just terrible. He talks about engraving 'mp4/12' instead of sticking it on because that way he saves 3.5 grams or something...I mean, why doesn't he rip EVERYTHING out, 1 seat, body made of the outer skin of Jupiter, special fuel from the moon which is 12.4 grams lighter than normal petrol... If it wasn't reading right after that that Eddie Jordan is sueing Ron because Ron Dennis pulled out the microphone connector thing on EJ's back I would honesty start believing he was a robot lol.

We get it, your car is very very very good...but being so bloody anal about every single thing is taking away the soul of the car imo. The SLR is a car he wasn't happy with because it was a bit to much Mercedes...I've always just imagined that when you floor the car and that savage noise it makes is just the soul of Mclaren shouting the speccy Mercedes accountants to death.

The McLaren F1 was built as an all-out sports car. It is an awesome car. It is far higher on the pecking order than anything Lambo ever dreamed of, higher than the Veyron and I'm afraid to say higher than any Ferrari.

That is what supreme attention to detail gets you.

The looks of the new McLaren are growing on me, I really really want to hear from the owners of the first cars because I am hoping to get one. It promises to be a mind-blowing car. I can't wait!

If the new car is more McLaren F1 than Mercedes-McLaren it will be a great car. The question of selling it in sufficient numbers at a sustaining profit remains to be settled.

Think about how much better Ferrari got after the NSX came out. Competition is a good thing.

I must say I am a bit surprised by the positive comments regarding the MP4-12C here on Ferrari chat. I would think Ferrari should be a little bit worried.

Why? Competition improves the breed. Besides, we like cars and this looks like a good one.

Heaven knows Audi has screwed up Lambo so Ferrari needs something to push them along. Ferrari is competing with themselves. If there's a company that should really be worried about McLaren, it's Lamborghini. It's always been the "anti-Ferrari" brand but now its got a new kid on the block to compete against with old models and nothing new coming down the pipeline.

Ron is good at wasting other people's money -- the very definition of F1 in the modern era. The F1 facility (er..... make that the monument to his ego) he built wasted millions. I'm sure he'll find a way to waste plenty of investors money on road cars.

McLaren is higher on the pecking order than Ferrari or Bugatti? I dont get your logic. A brand that was started in the 1920's - Bugatti, built some of the most beautiful cars in the world and also won tons of races from the 20's to WWII... then Comes along Ferrari, who starts a company back in 1947 and has won thousands of races, built some of the most iconic cars ever... and the most successfull F-1 team of all time... but no, McLaren started by a New Zealander in the mid 60's, who really only made one attempt at a road car before the founder was killed, - arguably one of the most successful top tier racing manufactures from 1970 on to present... Mclaren is supposed to be higher on the pecking order? I dont get it? The F-1 IS a Faboulous car, and super impressive, and i would love one, But there is no way that i would consider them higher on the pecking order... rarity yes, but to me the Bugatti - even the one owned by WV has the heritage that puts it above most all Marques. Ferrari is the pecking order. Ferrari most likely with Porsche are the true classic Marques. the others are really upstarts.
