Nope! he was GONE! If you see a heavy wannabe with a huge camera stop him. I bent it back to close it and to get home. I'll work on it when I cool down.

BUMMER!!! How did that happen exactly? I'm trying to figure out how trying to close it can cause it to bend it like that.

He didn't retract the support - just pushed down. It's rather thin metal.

The early cars have a rigid support rod with a ball button manual release -- the gas springs came later.

On the GT4 you have to push a button on the spring stay to let the hood down. It looks just like a gas spring but its NOT!...

there's a little knob on the strut that you have to push in so that the thinner rod slides into the strut housing...bad explanation. :)

Ouch. Sorry about that bro. 10"? It must have let go all at once when enough pressure was applied to start the initial break over.

The early cars have a lock ball in the strut, once open it locks.

I have labeled my hoods with a big DANGER!! PUSH BALL TO CLOSE! label.......

I have an extra hood on the garage wall too.....

To repair it properly you have to replace the square tube steel frame, then reapply the aluminum skin over it.....

Or see if Trutlands has one.......about $1,100.00 last time I quoted one.

I'd let your insurance handle it as 'vandalism".......

I had a fat chick sit on my hood once........she got away too.

My father in law sat on the trunk lid once... just put in two depressions in the aluminum and asked me " What kink of mileage does she get?" We got that straightened out. Poor and get the F&%$ off my car. The hood went back pretty well but the support area is kinked a bit.

I have to take it to the claims garage and have them bless it. I was just about to change to Hagerty with both my cars BMW 635CSi euro and the gt4

Oh...I assumed they were all gas struts. Sorry, that's one of those things that makes you want to go looking for someone with a baseball bat - not so much just because he damaged it but because he wouldn't stand there, "man-up" to it, and work it out (however) with you. :(

I might look into putting a gas strut on after this. But the frame might have to be reinforced to handle it. The aluminum skin is very soft thats good and bad.

I was quoting a 308GTB hood, maybe yours won't be that much........check with FerrParts before you spend a lot of money on it....

Maybe I should have my Graphics Shop run a bunch of the signs, and give them out here?????

If they're so lacking in awareness as to bend the bonnet, then there's a good chance many will be too inattentive to READ THE SIGN, too . . . :(

    . . . Just keep fools away from your car . . .

I remember, growing up, when people treated an exotic car with a sense of reverence. People understood that it was something special, it was different from their Chevy, and that all of those fine lines and accoutrements were to be touched only by a conscientious and knowledgeable hand. . . . and people respected other people's property (for example, NOT TOUCHING IT WITHOUT ASKING. ).

I always make it a point to look for that little tell-tell dimple on the hood when I see a 308. So many have had someone try to close it without pushing the button. Even mine.

Not just an exotic car, but ANY car at a show should be treated with a sense of reverence. After all, the fact that you bring a car to a show means that it's something special to you. All onlookers should know to KEEP THEIR HANDS OFF. I'm sure the person was just trying to be helpful by putting the hood back down, but just taking off after causing damage? That's inexcusable.

I think the gas struts are a 328 change. I'm pretty sure that all 308s have the manual button release - my mid-85 euro certainly does and I make sure to point it out to everyone in ear shot when it's open.
