Actually I already own a '79 308 GTS (S/N 28815) but I also have fun putting together cars from kits. (think of it as 1:1 model building). I have done a Factory Five Cobra as well as a Charmonix/Beck Porsche 550 Spyder.
Some people might suggest doing a restoration on a vintage car, but there are so many unknowns when doing that as well as parts availability, etc.
The nice thing about doing a kit is that I know all the parts are readily available and basically I am just doing the final assembly.

However, I have been thinking about doing a restoration/modification on a 60's Volvo P1800. It was originally styled by Vignale and has such smooth Italian lines. A few tweaks with different bumpers and grill, some Borrani type wire wheels and a burgundy paint job with a tan leather interior might be a fun project.

Anyway, I know that some of you have commented about the CalSpyder from Renucci and I came across this other company and thought I would share.

    Thanks
    Charlie

Yesterday I parked my 250 California replicar with its new Ferrari fly yellow paint when along came this boy[10,11 years old] on his bicycle. He stops, gets off, looks at over the car and says "This sure makes my dad's Porsche look pretty lame." Enjoy. just one man's opinion tongascrew

I happen to know these guys, I'm a member of their club.

These bodies are exact replicas off the original. Underneath are Jaguar chassis and V12 engines. They go like gang busters. Much nicer than the Vette based replicas in the States

Who knows which brand kit this is??? Thanks to Grant I want to build me one :D Perfect father/son winter project. The current owner says it needs a Corvette donor, but I think he is wrong and it is a UK built kit.

The dual cowls on the yellow car tell me it's probably a Devin body (fiberglass). Any argument?

I believe the Miami Vice Daytona Spyder was based upon a Corvette.

Yes, the Daytona in Miami Vice was a McBurnie Replica on a C3 Corvette. Because of the narrower Corvette windshield and wider track, these cars have much larger fender flares.

I've always wanted to start with a Daytona replica and make something a bit different though "Ferrari" influenced. I would start with one of the other replicas (not a McBurnie) that has the larger "lip" at the top of the doors and thus smaller fender flares, and utilize the windshield and inner cabin structure from a TR7/8, and a tube frame for the chassis. I think a BMW or Mercedes V12 backed by a 5 or 6 speed would be quite nice.

Does anyone know where I might get some 250GTO instruments made for a replica?

Try Sergio Castellani at www.autoepoca.it? If he does not have them he will know where to get them. I purchased several for real GTOs from a guy in Brescia but he was difficult to do business with.
