Is there a gasket that goes between bottom of the engine block and the top of the trans/diff case? Looking at the parts manual there does not appear to be one.

If no gasket, then is a sealer recommended or not, i.e. threebond etc...

There is no gasket. The factory uses three bond type sealer. I use Permatex 51031 Anaerobic High Temp Flange Sealant. Works really well.

One can even add a thin silk thread, along the middle of the seam.

Porsche guys swear by the case sealer made by 3-bond. I believe 1104 is the stuff they use. I used Loktite 518 in sealing my case halves. No leaks. Just make sure your surface is surgically clean.

1104 doscontinued due to toxic chemistry, has been replaced with 1194 which I read reports works as well as. Using it as gasket sealer for the oil and trans pan gaskets.

I have the Permatex on order for the block and diff housing..
