I've noticed that when I turn my steering wheel when stopped, I feel and hear a clunk. I started noticing it when driving slowly in traffic. At high speeds, the steering feels solid. Does anyone have a guess at this? I am scheduled to bring it in to the dealer next week and I've asked them to start with checking the bushings.

    Thanks all!

The lower ball joints are notorious for wearing out and causing clunking noises in the front of the 360. :):)

But they normally make clunking noises when going over bumps. You may have another issues there. :):)

I have also seen worn inner steering rack ends that clunk. But your steering wheel usually looses some of the 'tightness' and it may feel sloppy left to right. But you may not have that issue either. :):)

Having them check the bushes is a GREAT start. If it happens when you turn, it may be swaybar bushes worn and when the steering is moved left or right the swaybar knocks on the body because of the excess movement. :):)

Ive seen that before MANY MANY times. :D:D

If it is neither of those, then I wouldnt have a clue as it is hard to diagnose clunking noises over the internet. But I am sure they will sort it out for you when they see it. :D:D

Keep us posted as to how you go. :):)

Thanks for the great insight. I just got the car back and the dealer said they lubricated the lower shock bolts. I will defer posting the final outcome until I have a chance to drive the car for an afternoon...

OK the verdict is in and the noise is still there. This is the sort of thing we all read about - dealer charging an arm for something that doesn't get fixed.

I am going to pull the right front wheel myself and check to see if the brake caliper is somehow making the clunking noise. If nothing is found i imagine I will have to insist on all the bushings to be replaced. The dealer does not think it is in the bushings but then again, the noise is still there.

I will keep you all posted. Thanks!

This goes back to 1950's auto class but if you have the one wheel in the air try grabbing the front and back edges of the tire and turn it by hand (as if the steering wheel were moving it) and if you hear a clunk or feel a clunk it would put it likely in the tie rod end. I'd have thought they would have checked that. Sometimes with all the force put through a front suspension while being driven it is hard to find the problem when it's in the air, until it gets real bad. Good luck. The other old school is to grab tire top and bottom and try to move back and forth for ball joint wear, but it would have to be quite worn to feel either of those by hand test.
