Have a look at the attached pic from my 355. I was under the car checking to make sure my brake line wasn't leaking anymore (long story ) and spied this hanging down in my left rear wheel well. Never saw this flexible tubing before and couldn't ascertain where it goes without ripping things apart so I thought I'd check here. My initial thought is that it is the overflow tube for condensation from the A/C unit and that it should be 'plugged' into that little rubber grommet to the left of it. I hope that's it anyway... Difficult to tell with that photo but it looks like the fuel overflow tube from the fuel filler neck. Seems to be hanging down more than normal but it may not be routed correctly or may have been replaced at some point with a slightly longer hose. Only other tube that hangs down from the engine compartment, that I'm aware of, is the coolant overflow hose from the coolant tank cap.
Your car having been exposed to a stoge-in two weeks ago, there's no telling what was left in your car. As you'll remember (or maybe not), the clean-up was somewhat chaotic and done late at night.....
I agree with EULK. Nope. That drainage tube (for the A/C) hangs down near the passenger side of the front bulkhead (under the dashboard area). Needs to remain "unplugged" for sure --- don't try to attach it to anything. You may trim a bit of the length off if it bugs you, but it is best to allow any drain tubes to extend at least 1 1/2" - 2" below the undertray height.
Good grief, so that's where my pack of rubbers wound up. Rick, eulk328 is right - that is your "fuel exhaust tube" (overflow tube) and it is supposed to go through the rubber grommet - maybe it got knocked out of place during the Stoogefest. Those parties get kind of wild that way.
Thanks guys. After Eulk328's post I went out and dribbled some water in the fuel door area...sure enough it shot straight out the end of the tube. I pushed it through the rubber grommets about a 1/4 inch and all is well. Thanks all for solving the little mystery.
+1 ..... +2 .... it is definitely for the fuel filler overflow. Though the reason it may hang lower than usual is ......... it should be 'held' by a p-clamp bolted to the lower/outer stud of the radiator cooling fan mount.
Your car is obviously female. BTW, Plugz and I installed all 4 brake lines in my car without destroying a thing. We did have to improvise on the driver's rear side, but nothing terribly mind bending. And, we also installed 355 struts in front. I'm trying them for a bit to see if there is any difference but will probably keep them. This was not a difficult installation and the only trick was to use the correct order on reassembly and a jack under the strut to line up the bolt holes. First impression is that you can feel the difference in the soft 355 strut setting which makes the car more civilized. The stiff setting is a bit more difficult to determine differences. I need to spend more time in the twisties.
