A quieter exhaust...

Some of the Borla muffs both flow better and are quieter than the Magnaflows. The Flowmaster and Magaflows which everybody seems to buy because they *sound good* (I think that mean loud), actually don't flow that well compared to other muffs, that can be had quieter, or louder, depending on your preference.

I use a couple of the Borla turbo muffs on my large inch Chev,and with the crossover pipe, the car doesn't really make much sound at all unless you open the throttle all the way, then you can hear it.

I choose these because of their excellent part throttle lack of noise, as the exhausts on that car, exit out the side of the car at the rear wheels, which means I would hear it a lot more than an out the back exhaust. The Maxflow mufflers, which flowed somewhat better than the Borlas, were significantly noisier than the Borlas at part throttle.

This was from a flow and db analysis of a bunch of mufflers I found on a google search.

I like the stock muffler. In my 3000 mile run from Las Vegas to MD, I found it tolerable (barely). Anything louder is, IMO, OK for a 20 minute run but beyond that, I can't deal with it anymore. Plus, the stock is just bearable for conducting a conversation with a passenger. Otherwise you are just yelling or saying, "What?" a lot!

 

The stock ferrari muffler with the cat replaced with a straight pipe is a nice combination - gets rid of the fire bomb in the engine compartment and still sounds nice and mellow.

Ditto the reco on the borlas - generally a less extreme and more mellow sound with good performance IMHO.

I have a stebro on my 3.2 and it's very nicely made but way, way to loud....I'm getting older too.

I put a Nuvolari on my 308 and it is not bad at all. Also, at $900 shipped to the US, the price was great for a full polished stainless exhaust.

 

Prices have apparently jumped since then, as they are now going for $1600 shipped. Possibly the word has gotten out.

 

Got mine a couple of months ago. Just contact them direct. The $1600 system on EBAY is through a distributor. It may be a bit more expensive now because I picked mine up when the dollar was a bit stronger against the pound. I got mine in May or June.

The dollar hasn't been quite that strong! lol.

There is a nice fellow in the US now who handles all distribution for US clients. For some reason this made the price of each unit jump quite a bit.

 

Maybe go with a tunable final unit like Supertrapp that let's you add/subtract baffles?

Do they make a CAT ready system? Not only do I hate the noise, I'm getting to hate the smell of exhaust. Leather, a little hot oil is fine, but when your clothes stink - - - too much.

 

Ok, in my experience aftermarket stuff gets louder w/ age. A lot louder! Go back to stock (equivalent). I couldn’t imagine that rattle & roar from your set up. Tacky sound spoils the F experience for me.

Absolutely agree! Loud was fine when I was in my 20's. Now it's just annoying and I have no time for it nor interest in it for street driving.

I just returned from my local Porsche club meeting. One of the members was following me in my 308 the other week to a car show. He told me every time I downshifted, I threw flames out my new exhaust. I thought that was pretty cool.

Next you'll be driving a Prius! Actually, I'm no spring chicken either but I've just gone fuller, richer, deeper, and louder with a Larini on my 328 and I love it. The big test of tolerance will be soon when I drive it Sydney--> Adelaide (1,000 miles) and then back again. Meantime, I kind of like it scaring the women and horses.

 

Boy, I guess this thread really shows "to each his own". For me, a good fifty percent of the Ferrari experience is the sound(s) they make, which is why I have a Euro carb car and am selling my 328. Ferrari makes RACE cars; they're supposed to be loud! LOL! However, as with great guitar players (hey, someone mentioned a Marshall stack), it's not just about volume but...TONE.
