AUS has a huge RE bubble that is just starting to deflate....rent, don't buy.

 

Curious, why not the friendliest place on earth, Canada? Closer location, almost similar life style minus all the bad stuff, great education system, not as cold as people think lol. Just curious

Melbourne Victoria of course. The home of Aussie rules footy and the MCG. Great place to live and bring up kids, but watch out for traffic cops and speed cameras.

Will go back once the kids a bit older for school and sports.

There are MANY great places in Australia to live.

Dont come here though, this place is a dump.
(Although everyone who comes and goes loves it)

The big Cities are Brisbane, QLD. Sydney, NSW. Melbourne, VIC.

They are all very nice. There is around 2 million living in Brisbane. Around 4 million in Sydney and 4 million in Melbourne.

They ALL have their pro's and con's. Realestate is HIGH in all Cities, but you wil always find something to buy.

Sydney is the highest average house price in Australia, approx AU $550K. Melb and Brisbane around AU $450K.

PLENTY of property available.

Townsville in North QLD, Mackay and Cairns are also very nice. Realestate there is a little cheaper. Townsville has approx 200K, people, Cairns around 130K people and Mackay around the same they reckon.

I REALLY love the Gold Coast. Nothing beats that place!! The best lifestyle out of all those big Cities.

I visit the Gold Coast a few times a year normally. Love the place. The beaches are some of the best in the world. Approx 500K people live there, and the average house price is around AU $425K. But they have plenty of AU $20M homes and AU $300K homes.

So I wouldnt worry too much about buying realestate mate, there are plenty of options.

As for the housing bubble, I dont know. Just like the rest of the world, the REAL expensive stuff has come down a lot in price. No one can afford that crap, so the ass end falls out of it.

The average homes are still growing at a healthy 10% growth Australia wide, give or take. Some more growth, some less. Of course.

When or IF you decide on where you are really interested in going, let us know and I can tell you a lot more about that paticular area.

I have done the rounds, know a bit of everywhere around Australia.

Yeah, they call VIC the Police State.

 

Yeah, you can bring it here but I think for only 2 yrs before you have to send it back to the USA or have it converted to RHD.

As an American visitor, you have 2 yrs.

If you decide to become a citizen, then you probably have to send it back straight away or convert straight away.

And trust me, you cant get it converted here. I have never heard of anyone converting a 348 here in Aus.

I dont know of any conversion kits either.

Best bet would be to bring it over, then send it back and sell it when the time comes..........if you decide to stay with your family.

Only a few $$$ to bring it here and back.

I have seen MANY cars driving around here in various cities around Australia, LHD with Cali plates or New York plates...etc..etc..

 

Hello, living in Sweden but been in Australia a lot of times. Also considering moving some 10 years ago.

I think the most important thing is to consider the way of living You need/want.

In AUS can have it all, people is nice and easygoing, just pick a nice place to live.

If You want nature, views and silence, no problems, city, no problems, beaches/watersport, no problems, dont forget the wine areas

Many Aussiepeople is fond of watersports and the beaches is wast and never crowded

Not to forget, try to choose an area not "invaded" by boxyellyfish, snakes, spiders and other not so pleasent animals

I am very fond of the Brisbane area, both north and south of Brisbane is very nice. Northwest of Brisbane is a nice area, not beach but nice.

Townsville is to hot in the summertime, I was planning to purchase a small business there but the advise was not to because of the weather.

No wonder Australians are so laid back all the time. The timid ones have probably all died out from extreme fear.

Another aspect that you may need to consider is what your salary might be in Australia. I looked into moving there recently, and found out that my salary in Australia would be nearly half of what it is here in the U.S. Couple that with a higher cost of living, and high real estate costs, I was looking at a dramatic change in lifestyle compared to living here. I wish it were different, because I think I would really have liked living there.

 

Don't forget to spend some time cruising the Australia section here to decide if you can face meeting some of those guys for real and living amongst folk like them !

Sounds like you've been hanging out in one of our illustrious cities a bit too much. You might enjoy New Hampshire. It's a great place and you get to drive around with the country's best state slogan written on your license plates: "Live Free or Die" and we mean it

Of course your kids won't pick up that really cool Australian accent, but it'd be a much easier move.
