Got nailed speeding in my fcar

Yeah, but as pointed out earlier, with all the drifiting going on, a kid and his lawyer can debate how much control was lost, but maintaining traction is a fairly easy one for the officer to win on. In fact, have seen officers go out and photograph the skid marks and the freshly rubbed out tires after righting the ticket. Usually for very obnoxiuos defendents.

As long as you are not trying to hide contraband in the vehicle, in which case other techniques might be needed, politeness and respect for the badge is the best way to avoid tickets or at least set yourself up for a positive out come in court.

 

Good thing they don't get much snow down there.
At least half the drivers would be cited for not maintaining traction.

As a matter of fact, I heard of such tickets going to folks driving cars not equiped for the snow and blocking major roads this past winter.

 

Not quite the same thing but it doesn't surprise.

 

Radar is used as a verification of their visual estimation, so he could have gotten you on speed w.out radar.

 

I was ticketed because my car sounded like it was going fast.
It held up in court.

I am doing a bit of research but states like Michigan create a tough position for out of
state drivers and I quote from the Michigan State Police FAQ at:

True but in the last two states I've lived in (VA and TN) there is no black and white law for allowable decibels. The law kind of leaves the decision up to each individual officer.

The only way I could imagine this happening is if the officer had perfect pitch and could run through his doppler equations very quickly.

Nope, it was "sound fast".
I was driving in a wooded area, and upon exiting the woods, came across a patrolman running radar pointed in the other direction to my travel.
He signaled me over, and gave me a ticket for "Speeding, other"

The other facts that weighed against me is that I was a "long haired" youth, and driving a weird sports sedan (NSU TTS)

 

I've been ticketed twice in Michigan as a non-resident and haven't had to surrender my license or post the $100 bond. This was several years ago so things may have changed. Both tickets were issued by the MSP-one downstate and one "up north".

 

I used to whip around corners, it's fun to use these vehicles for what they are intended. Once I did it and a woman who looked but then didn't see me round the corner at speed made a U turn right near the corner and I broadsided her. My 6 week old vehicle and her 3 week old vehicle. After a bit of fighting she was found 100% liable, but that quick unexpected movement in an otherwise regular area caused an accident. I don't tear around corners anymore. I also hit a deer once coming around a corner smartly. Hill on one side, oncoming traffic on the other, I laid on the brakes and waited for impact. That sucked too. I may be overly cautious now, but i don't hit stuff anymore. Granted those events were 12 and 18 years ago and I got older. I still do stupid stuff, but it's much more measured and calculated now. In CA I think any loss of traction now can be charged as exhibition of speed, related to the streetracing laws and is a criminal offence. My brother got popped on that one and it hurt.

 

A valuable lesson learned cheap.
It could have been so much worse.

 

A bunch of friends and I were out for a "spirited" rally a few weeks ago through NY/NJ/CT..
long story short, they closed down Route 8 for about an hour to stop us all at one time due to all the calls they were getting about us... or at least thats what they claimed. Some people got some no point tickets...others didnt get any tickets at all.
It was quiet the spectacle... 30 + exotics and about 10 cop cars..

Time to talk 'the man' down a bit on the speed. In most states, there is a BIG diff between being 24mph over the limit vs. being 25mph or more over the limit. For example, defensive driving classes are often not allowed if the citation if for >=25 over the limit.

So, on a 70mph road, thinking 94mph will keep you out of a world of hurt.

 

Have I missed the part where you said you were not speeding? Or were you?

I think they are trying to get people to stop speeding 'too' fast.

The 'speeding issue' with law enforcement in VA has been known for what, 20-25 years?
There are places to go, and places to avoid, and situations to avoid ('spirited' drive with 30 cars...).

And some folks get what they deserve (flame suit on).

 

Get an attorney, settle with DA for a lesser offense, then MOVE out of VA.
