has anyone replaced their upper dash leather cover with another leather that does not have the sticky problem? i was thinking of getting a hold of some new leather, like that used in a 328, to recover the dash in a 355. i figure with carbon fibre on the center console and "regular" leather on the dash, there will never be sticky stuff in the car again! any idea on cost for the dash work?

personally I would'nt use leather of any kind on the dash recover......a simulated vinyl leather or a faux alcantara like some of the audi's use will last much longer with no problems associated with real leather shrinking.

The sticky problem has to do with the rubberized plastic parts.

As for the leather, if you feed and clean the leather regularly (more than once a year) it will not get sticky, nor will it shrink....

+1. Leatherique for the dash and all leather. www.stickynomore.com for all the rubber coated pieces that get gooey. ;)

Your best solution for the sticky stuff is: remove all sticky parts carefully, use the 409 household cleaner and hot water and remove the rubberized material. Your parts will end up with nice and clean black plastic that will never get scratched or sticky again.

thanks for the replies. i have a carbon fibre center console, no sticky parts, but minor dash wrinkling. thought replacing the dash with "regular" leather would be a perma-solution to that problem. will get to work with the leatherique.

When I was first getting started I tryed 409 as well as many "household cleaners" and haven't found one yet that removes the sticky coating... You must have found the super extra strength stuff somewhere....

Ok, over the past few months I did a somewhat significant interior over on my car (a 1990 348TS). I had a number of leather bits that were nicked, ripped, or torn. Also, almost all of my rubberized components had turned "sticky."

To try and keep costs down, I attempted to clean and refinish the sticky bits I felt comfortable working with. These came out reasonably well. However, those pieces I did NOT feel comfortable working with (particularly, the articulated A/C vents), I sent off to "285Ferrari" at Sticky No More. I was quite happy with my own work... until I had it side by side with what I got back from Robbie @ Sticky no More. Night and day difference, and for the cost vs. time/effort, this is a no brainer. Do yourself a favor and send these bits in. The results are stunning, and the cost is a steal when you consider how much time and effort you will be investing on your own (assuming good results... send them in for spectacular results! I'm not alone in my opinions here, just use the search function).

Anyway, on the leather front... I recovered a number of interior pieces with leather, but with some pieces I used a synthetic material called "Izit" that matched my interior extremely well. After working with both, I can HANDS DOWN say that Izit is a quality product that is EXTREMELY easier to work with. That is, when stretching leather over complex surfaces, you can do things with Izit that are near impossible with genuine leather. I was even able to recover my previously rubberized steering column with Izit to get the steering column to perfectly match the rest of the leather of the dash, doors, seats, etc. There could have been NO CHANCE to get those kinds of results with leather.

Sorry for rambling post, but my comments boil down to: rubberized stuff should go off to www.stickynomore.com , complicated dash/interior bits that should be leather can be easily reworked with Izit to make the job DRAMATICALLY easier. If working with a very basic interior piece, go ahead and use leather, but if you have more than 3 curves to stretch around... izit. For sure.

    Maybe start here: http://www.izitleather.com/

[Edit] Doh! My bad! Just now saw the comments on the carbon fiber interior. Disregard my meaningless banter
