Also in the background is the yellow P300 special used for pre Silhouette development as well as the first P250 twin headlight prototype.
Good point about the images. Just to explain briefly, I worked at CAR magazine for 18 months in the mid-90s where I was their photo archivist. As one of the perks of the job, they allowed me to keep the excess Lamborghini images that were duplicates because they knew I was mad about the marque. I left the best quality pictures in their archive (in terms of exposure, focus, framing etc.) and was able to extract for myself a healthy stockpile of 'second tier' images, which in truth were pretty damn good anyway As such, I own the photos and transperancies I post, but they should still be credited to CAR. As another perk, I was able to visit many of the other publishers' photo archives due to the contacts I made and I can tell you, there is some fabulous stuff out there that never gets to see the light of day. That's one of the reasons why I love this chatroom thread, (even if it is on a Ferrari Chat website;-), as there is a chance for owners and enthusiasts to share info and images. On that note, here's a few more factory shots, but I'd love it if somebody else can start posting their own pictures as well please The first two were taken in 1985 by an Espada owning friend of mine, (I'd love to know if that American registered S3 Espada is still around), while the rest are from the CAR material I have. FYI, the Jalpa image isn't actually the one that appeared in CAR in their November 1982 issue, I was mistaken in that regard, but it is similar enough for it to be instantly recognisable. Also, if anyone can help me about watermarking images and how to scan transperancies so they can be downloaded, I'd be most grateful as I have more stuff, but I can only scan photos at this point and I'm running out of the material Marcel de Lange scanned for me. Brilliant! I love the one with the Countach 'eating' the guy!!! The door shot with the poster on the wall behind them is also interesting, it reminded me of another picture I saw that I think was taken at the factory, (though I may be wrong), but I thought I would post it anyway. If you note on the left-hand side of the image, partially behind the drill set, there is a picture on the wall of an Espada with what looks like a phoenix or an angle painted on the bonnet, along with extensive pinstripes down the side and an almost certainly non-standard sunroof fitted. Wonder where that is today?? I doubt that it is the same car that was pulled out of a barn a few years back, as the barn-find car is a Series 3 American spec, and the 'factory' car appears to be a Series 1 or 2a European spec car, but both had similar custom paint jobs. Pics of both attached, but I can't remember where I got the barn-find car image from; any help about either car's whereabouts would be gratefully received. Those cars are all gone now, replaced by crash-test and crashed Gallardos and Murcielagos. Many of the almost complete cars were restored, while the Espada Gullwing Prototype was 'restored' using the interior of a production car and is on display in Tonino's museum. At least the historically important and interesting prototypes were brought in out of the elements. Interestingly, CAR magazine got into a whole pile of trouble for publishing the pictures they took behind the factory of the 'graveyard'. I guess the factory got over it though, as it wasn't the last article the magazine did on Lamborghini and only a couple of years back they allowed CAR's correspondent George Kacher to help assemble a new Gallardo LP560-4.
But here's a picture of my kids when we spent the day with Balboni. He gave us a tour of the factory, then the museum and then he shared a meal with us. It was great. This shot is at the musuem and, if anyone knows what happens when you stand close to the car on the wall.... well, I thought my wife had crapped her pants when she walked up to it. What a great pic, it must've been a fantastic day! BTW, I think the wall Diablo sold at auction last weekend... wonder who bought it...
Great thread ! The barn-find car is an S2 (VIN: 8572). The picture was taken around 2002 when it was advertised as a barn-find in Georgia, USA. According to the ILR the car was sold to someone in Nevada who was planning to restore the car but I'm not sure if he ever started to do.
What is that "thing" coming out of the right hand intake vent on the hood of the red Espada? Is it an optical illusion or what? Image Unavailable, Please Login
