The dates are fast approaching for the Coach I Memorial Concours and Tour. As most of you know, this event was started by our beloved friend, two-time Clemson University NCAA National Soccer Championship coach, successful businessman, and long-time FCA member and Ferrari enthusiast.

Those of us who knew Dr. I.M. Ibrahim (“Coach I” to his friends and associates) will never forget the friendship, enthusiasm and depth of Ferrari knowledge that he contributed to our gatherings. Every year, Coach I and his wife Julie welcomed us to their magnificent country estate for an event that quickly became one of the most popular on the regional FCA calendar. After his sudden passing two years ago this month, it was decided that the most appropriate way to celebrate this great man’s life and accomplishments would be to carry on with this event in his memory. With Julie’s enthusiastic support and participation, that is what we have done.

For this year, we have planned a schedule of events that includes the concours, sightseeing, fine dining, and of course spectacular motoring on some of the best roads in the southeast.

    Please note the schedule below:

    Friday, August 27

Arrive at our host hotel in Greenville the Westin Poinsett http://www.westinpoinsettgreenville.com/. Ask for the FCA rate. If you are not a member, please join here- www.fca-sc.org.

6:00-9:00 - Display our cars with FCI http://www.foreigncarsitalia.com/ and the Greenville Exotic Car Club across from the Westin while we dine at Soby's http://www.sobys.com/. Note that the 458 Italia should be present and don't forget to say hello to Hank and Ronnie.

Continue festivities and fellowship as Greenville has a beautiful Main Street scene with multiple bars and shops within walking distance.

    Saturday, August 28

    10-2:30 - The Coach I Memorial Concours

Arrive at the Ibrahim Estate to display your exotic, see the new 458 Italia, enjoy a catered BBQ, and meet and greet friends old and new.

2:30 - Follow Chris Merineck as we take the scenic route around Lake Keowee and then head up one of the best roads in all of the Carolinas to Highlands, elevation 4118’, making this a true “beat the heat” weekend. Highlands is a simply magical town that you will want to visit again, and perhaps even take up residence in for part of the year once you’ve experienced it. http://www.highlandschamber.org/

The only hotel that would allow us to book just one night is the Hampton Inn so reserve your room here and be sure to thank Sabrina for her help: http://hamptoninn-highlands.com/

6:30 - Dine at Cyprus, one of the best restaurants in Highlands: http://www.cyprushighlands.com/Artist.asp?ArtistID=21055&Akey=DFV93HQV

After dinner, we’ll head to the Old Edward Inn for the Art and Wine Gala where you will see works by Salvador Dali, Gary Bukovnik, and Peter Polities: http://www.samcallproductions.com/

    Sunday August 29

8:00 - This is for the real drivers, as we’ll start early beat the traffic to drive some of the great roads in the area, culminating with a stop back near Highlands at spectacular Dry Falls: http://www.highlandsinfo.com/hiking/fallsdry.htm Here, just a short hike from the parking area, you can follow a path that takes you behind the falls, an experience that you won’t soon forget. From there, it’s a short drive to Bridal Veil Falls http://www.highlandsinfo.com/Video/BridalVailFalls.htm where you can drive and photograph your car behind the falls.

Around 11:30 - Brunch at On the Veranda http://home.nctv.com/otv1/OTV1js.htm, another one of my favorite places to dine.

This should be a terrific tour, and give us a chance to escape the heat for a day or two if you decide to make the trip to Highlands. Please PM or email me at [email protected] if you have any interest, as the hotel block will end as soon as we fill up or on August 16, whichever comes first.

    David,

It sounds like you have put together a great event, and Highlands will be 10 degrees cooler than the rest of the Southeast. I will bring my 550 and join you for the Concours and on to Highlands. The roads around there are terrific, and it sounds like you picked some of the best places to eat. I'm looking forward to it!

I'm really looking forward to it this year.
All signs point to a really fun and active event.
If Julie and JMF do it, you know it'll work!!

I wasn't going to show up for anything other than the Saturday event but now that John and Margaret are only coming Friday night I'll try and make that too. I'm local so no hotel concerns, but I'm looking forward to seeing everyone. Thanks, Brian

Put me down to buy a poster too, super cool.

Some of us Georgians will be in Highlands a bit ahead of y'all, having lunch at Ruka's Table. We'll soften up the town for ya!

Have a good time and say hello to Mrs. I from all of Coach's friends in Georgia.
