355/360 Cam Conversion Cost

Can't swap cams between these models. However, you can send your cams to webcams for a little more aggressive profile although you are limited to what profile you can chose without changing compression with pistons as well.

 

I have been toying with this idea for a while , but need to finish my std motor first . Nick's one uses alot of custom parts and is very nicely exicuted . Carobu were using a 355 crank , but have now changed to a custom crank . I would love to know why .
If I hadn't bought the 360 motor I want to try and fit to a 308 gearbox this is the path I would have gone down .
I have a spare 360 crank which drops straight into a 308 block . Then you use the 85mm liners and pistons from the 360 ( block needs to be machined to fit the liners ) Then you need a set of custom rods and away you go !!!! Now this sounds pretty simple I am by no means saying it works with the std pistons . I'm not sure of all the clearances as with the shorter rod the piston comes further down at BDC .
I think Rifledriver is busy with something similar using 355 bits , maybe he can comment .
You would need to use 328/348 heads as the fitting of 360 heads to a 308 block is not really possible ( the cam drive pulleys are a smaller diameter to get the cams closer together )so the cambelt pulley ratios is all wrong not to mention the oildrain tubes that are external ?? Now if you were "m ke" ( from the V12 conversion ) of cource this would be no problem !!! These are some of the reasons why I went with an entire 360 motor !!!
Some will argue you can't use the 360 pistons as they are 5 valve , these are all issues that would be needed to be resolved . It's all about budget if you have the funds for custom pistons that has to be a better plan .
Same with the liners the 360 liner will require a double oring and a spacer as the oring seat is higher up in the 360 block . So you could make custom liners ??
Or possibly just buy the Carobu pistons and liners ??
