Back from a fantastic trip that ranged from Pebble Beach to Bonneville speed week to Vegas and Phoenix, with a side flight to St Louis. Monterey was excellent, auction results very strong, great day at Quail, great racing at Laguna Seca, Pebble the usual sensation with the XKSS Jags and SWB's as features. Bonneville (the diametric opposite of PB) was amazing, impossible to capture in words or photos the vastness of the place and the sense of history and relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Drove Bonneville to Vegas down route 93 and 318, the latter one of the greatest driving roads I've experienced. 90-100mph most of the way, perfect surface and stunning scenery. Spent too much on racing car parts, got everything we needed and some we perhaps didn't need, but couldn't resist... In approximate chronological order: 1. private Penske Indy car collection in suburban LA 2. Pebble Tour, just some of many fab cars 3. P540 Superfast, the prototype for the new 599 roadster (which I can't publish) 4. 340 America at Goodings Auction Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I always enjoy catching up on the hotrod scene at the Filling Station party on Thursday night, rat rods are in at the moment, these were fantastic. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Bonneville. '28 Ford roadster with '28 Tourer push car, how cool is that? 330mph streamliner with engine cover off. This is what your immaculate rod looks like after a run on the salt... Beautiful rods everywhere. '52 bellytank with a Mercury flathead and injection. Owner ran 197mph, then his wife did 192! Both were "newbies", you have to do a certain number of runs in the 190's before you're allowed to go over 200 and collect the famous "200mph club" t-shirt. 500hp VW, 170mph with a standard body. Can-am cars in St Louis. Road registered Reynard Indy car - only in America! Some of the cars in stock 1952 Kurtis Offy roadster Our new F1 DFV, just finished, beautiful job, with super-rare oval-Ford badged valve covers. Penske Museum in Phoenix. Open air car show in supermarket parking lot, complete with 60's music playing from the drive-in diner. I loved this '34 Ford 3 window, with spun ally covers over wire wheels and period drag racing underpinnings, very tuff. ps. note the blue Bonneville entry decal at the base of the bonnet, this car ran on the salt last year. That's all folks! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
there's nothing wrong with the camera , poor old Ian needs to take some lessons in photography .... or get his lovely wife to take them
Looks like a great trip Ian! You said the auction results were strong, what was the story with the $200k Daytona Sale?
Here are a few. The rubber band car was a pisser. The 288GTO had a big block alloy NASCAR engine with OF COURSE a huge supercharger. You can NEVER have enough HP. That orange car was a 2 litre 4 cylinder turbo which I think did 400+ MPH. The turbo was physically bigger than the engine itself. Must have been 50psi boost !! Hand grenade engine.
