I see so many 458s being burned down and listen to so many horror stories. Is this something I should worry about or is it just another one of those incidents that happens whenever Ferrari launches a new model?

You mean to cover with insurance? But shouldn't the manufacturer take care of it?

Insurance should cover the whole thing, you don't want to stop the fire (when it's still small).Let it burn to the ground ,collect insurance and go order a new one...
What does Factory have to do with it?
There is no known problem ,no recall, just a few random fires around the World.
Lambos and others burn too, burning 458s are just more interesting at the moment (as were 599s and Lp640s a while ago).
It got to the point that some guys post a warehouse fire with 458 inside to point out "see, another Ferrari Italia is burned!".
As usual, overblown and out of proportion stories....

There is a defect in the 458 design, the hot air in the engine bay is trapt, I think Ferrari is aware of it and a recall is in the process.

I see... It's funny you pointed out "let it burn to the ground". I agree with that because if I stop fire, then insurance will fix the car and give it back to me and car will not be as likely as before. LOL~

But still don't understand why it catches "fire"??? Never seen any of my cars doing that even if I drive like crazy at tracks.

I've only seen proof of 4.

I saw a new Toyota Camry burning a while back & I didn't see a single person taking a photo of it. I drove right by it like nothing was going on at all. Did I consider taking a photo & posting it all over the internet..? NO! Because it's a Toyota and no one cares. A Ferrari or Lambo burns & EVERYONE stops to take photos.

Let's see. Time will tell. If nothing happens, then it's another one of those bad rumors floating around. If there is something wrong, then I'm sure Ferrari will take care of it.

This is interesting, I never thought much about it but I have seen photo's of 458's on fire, I just assumed the factory will want to take a look at these cars to be sure there is no defect. Insurance didn't even cross my mind.

Is the warranty against manufacturing defects? If the fire was a result of a defect then the warranty would apply?

Bet Ferrari will not be saying if there is a defect.

In the Toyota's case it will be a freak accident as they make many millions of almost every model they make.

In the Ferrari's case it is poor design because something like 1% of all the 458's have burnt already. To get 1% of Toyota Camry's burning that would be at least 10,000 ... !!!

So sorry we can put our heads in our hands and think to ourselves that Ferrari makes no mistakes or we can be sensible and realise that there are more 458's burning earlier in the production life cycle than 430's and 360's and 355's, etc.

I would not purchase one until this was resolved myself, and then I would carry a fire extinguisher as well.

Heard thats caused by something involving with Ferrari's new direct injection system!? Is that true?

p.s. my first thought it could be defect on 458 new gas cap

I've already posted this in another thread but here goes again. There is a campaign on the 458 involving the installation of a modified breather vent unit for the fuel system. The new part is fitted to the area in front of the left hand side rear wheel well. I'm taking my car in this morning to have this campaign work carried out.

The engine bay of the 458 is more enclosed than that of the 360/430 and it does get very hot in there.

I started this thread to get the real feedback not feedbacks from 458 haters. ;-)

Regret starting this thread but I'm sure 458 owners will not be bothered by it and real potential 458 buyers would care less.

I think you've read more into that than I meant so I should have worded it more carefully. I should have added I've had zero issues with my car and if owners follow Ferraris advice to leave the engine running for a few minutes before shutting down after a run this gives the engine a chance to cool down more efficiently.

As far as the 458 service campaign goes I had the new breather pipe installed this morning and it only took 45 minutes to do. The service advisor at the dealership couldn't have been more helpful so it was a good experience and an opportunity to chat about the cars with another enthusiast.
