Were can I get some SS seats and belts like in the picture ?
Rights are unobtanium, but they are blowing out the last of the left hand seats ($924.30): https://www.ferrariparts.co.uk/PagesExternal/ManagerSpecials.aspx
They're 348 Challenge seats-OMP-reupholstered in leather. The upholstery is usually bad by now. Not articulated like SS seats, but weigh only 12 lbs. The belts are 5-point Simpson which you can buy online.
I don't think it has been mentioned but one of the most important things you should do is get some protection for very expensive and to my knowledge unavailable driving lights. I have .40mm 3M film on mine. Challenge covers look great if you can find them and the proper hardware to mount them. Plugz, I love the seats in your ride. I'm still kicking myself for selling my SS seats to Kai but He's a good guy and deserves to have them. Besides, as much as people have been beating me up for having the nerve to try and sell a modified car and not give a substantial discount because it's not original I couldn't imagine the flak I'd get if the SS seats were still in my car. I should probably knock off another 10K because I don't have the original oil from 1992 LOL Seriously, your car looks great man!
Condensed and clipped list... Those all sound great to me. I'm not sure which exhaust I'd go for, so I left the specific recommendations off the list. For wheels, I've recently been swayed by the 360 CS wheels, as they really do seem to suit the side strakes. Also, I've really liked the effect that Koni FSD has had on my daily driver. I don't think they currently make it for any Ferrari models, but if they ever did for the 348 then I imagine it would be phenomenal. All the best, Andrew.
1 - Rear wheel spacers 2 - Hill Engineering shifter plate 3 - Cat bypass and/or sport exhaust from the manufacturer of your choice
360 wheels (or whatever you like is better than the dated stock twisted star) I attached a pic, my car looks better now as I machined 18mm off the rears. Husker rear grille a must. I like the carbon stuff too, just haven't had time to do mine yet. There is a lot you can do to the engine, but you still won't have a rocket when you are done. High flow cats (or gut/delete them) and a good aftermarket exhaust will make her sing better. Like copterjohn stated, these are like Harleys - you can spend a ton on them, but you probably won't get much of it back when you go to sell it. Have fun playing!! Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have to many bad memories of my 348. Many years ago I lived in the NE, USA. My car would sit all Winter in the garage. I couldn't wait for that first warm day to drive it. I would keep it on a charger so when the time was right I was ready to go. On the first dry day, I fired up the 348. I started off. The car was running great. It was a wonderful car. After about an hour or two the car just died.So I pulled off to the side of a main road. Got out of the 348 and I started to investigate the problem. I quickly discovered the alternator was gone. Sitting on the side of a busy road with a Ferrari creates a lot of attention. All I needed was a quick jump to put a little juice in the battery because I was close to home. So I decided to call a friend. When I was on the phone five cars pulled over to assist me. It turn out to be Porsche club. We agreed if I got a jump start. They could take a picture and put it in their local club flyer. That was it for me and the 348! We were done.
So... what you're saying is that the best modification for the 348 should be an uprated alternator? To be fair to the 348, the alternator could let go in any classic car. All the best, Andrew.
Wow, odd train of thought. So in your current vehicle whatever goes in it are you going to dump that too, and label all vehicles of that model as having the same problem? I agree with Andrew - otherwise, we would see a rash of threads here asking for assistance on how to replace/upgrade their alternator.
Hi Bruce, I like the mods on the 348. I have two questions, Do you find that you have sufficient cranking power with the Odyssey 680, and have you tried the stock seat belts with those seats.
Thanks again to all. I don't race my car. You know my Ferrari seems to be like a Diamond necklace. I use it only the weekend when the wather is good ! Now, I've got a lot of ideas to tune my car!
I've been using an Odyssey 680 for a few years now. Cranking power has been no problem whatsoever. They are a little sensitive to vibration, tho, so I have mine on a rubber mat. Also, I don't use engine off draws like radio playing. The stock seat belts are ineffective with these seats, as they are too deep for the lap belt to make contact with my skinny a$$. The seats and harnesses enhance the experience significantly when driving in a spirited manner.
Yeah, but you can bet that every one of the Porcupine drivers would have traded places with you in an instant to have a Ferrari instead of their pedestrian Porsches.
best mods imo: redline lightweight shockproof gear oil 75w-90 fast shifts spacers front and back decat momo steering wheel BMC CDA air flow carbon interiors
My dad has a Porsche 911 (993) Carrera 2 Convertible (link1, link2)... I assure you that 'pedestrian' is not a word that came to mind for describing its pace when I was driving it in late July. That said, although the Porsche is a thrilling car, I would much prefer a 348. All the best, Andrew.
You may want to make sure unless youre driving a challenge car with a full roll CAGE that the belts would be covered by your insurance in case of a rollover. When you dont have the cage, youll be held straight up in the seat, risking spine, head, neck injuries and the roof collapses on top of your head. I had a colleague who ended up a quadripelegic this way when the roof collapsed directly over his head in a roll over and he was trapped upright and had a c-4 cord injury. nd
Are you saying that the regular seat belts allow you to "dodge" the roof in case of a roll over? I thought that the seat belts lock you in place or would you slip out "side ways"? I am not so sure that you friend would have been "ok" with regular seat belts. Maybe some experts can chime in. Kai
