The organizers here (i.e. Tavo and gang) have NO say on when the US Grand Prix is to be held during the calendar year.

The US arm of the FIA (ACCUS) has to file a formal request for a date on the Formula 1 calendar (which they did last week according to Tavo). They "request" their 3 desired dates from first choice to third choice. There is no guarantee any of these dates will be granted. It is SOLEY up to the FIA and FOM to establish the date.

Any of you that just watched the Indy MotoGP race will, by now, be aware of the serious deterioration of the racing surface. The track was so bumpy and cracked that it played havoc with the racing in every class.

They claimed an attendence of 100K on race day. May be....the stands hold a ton of people, and they were mostly empty, but that shows the market potential of the racing to overcome the drawbacks of Indy.

I went to Indy for the first year of MotoGP and it is in a scat hole. It has a wonderful history, but it sure doesn't seem to fit into the current image of F1 in any way, shape or form, other than having some curvy asphalt and grandstands.

Sorry for the hijack....I hope this track in Austin comes through.

What makes you so sure they will suck? I would rather leave it to HT to design the circuit than leave it to some people that think they know better.

We will just have to wait and see.

We could get an equ rouge corner if they were willing to remove 30-50 feet (vrticle) from the center of T4

    But le source is backwards........

Previous experience of similar looking "mickey mouse" sections that he insists upon having and about which everyone complains. [Including the drivers.] I was even the 2nd poster to cite (part of) Indy as an example of suckiness. [There are others in pretty much all his circuits I believe?]

I'm not saying I know better, maybe this time he's got it right and designed an "instant classic". I certainly don't claim to know, but thought I was entitled to my opinion.

    +1 Indeed.

    Cheers.

You are entitled to your opinion just as I am entitled to question it :)

I hope it is good and I am very happy to see the elevation change. I am looking forward to driving it. :D

Turn 1 reminds me a little bit of Turn 2 at Brands Hatch (except it turns left instead of right).

    I like the elevation changes.

Quite frankly at this point I really care more about having the USGP back than what the track looks like. They could put in a figure 8 and I'd be ok with it. Just build it please.

Finally we have a couple of hairpins that will enable passing. Fast sweepers = no passing, simple as that as there is only one line. Hairpins on the other hand have many lines :).

I also like the elevation changes, the first I believe for Tilke.

Hasn't happened yet. Still not a believer.

If I have to eat crow, though, it certainly would taste better at an F1 race.

Given that hill (granted it may be exaggerated in that sketch) might this not be the infield roller coaster not the track?

My guess is that it will be combined with the Canadian GP for logistics reasons. Right now the Turkish GP lies next to the Canadian one and its future is in serious doubt. So Bernie is probably not going to renew the Turkish GP contract and use that slot for Austin instead.

I'm just glad Tilke didn't decide to drop Turn 4 of Indy into his plaguarizing, geez they 'd be three wide going thru that!! LOL!

Then they'd hit the wall, and scatter thru the catch fencing....;)

No, you are absolutely right. He owns (partially?) the Turkish GP racetrack. But that is neither here nor there: He makes his money with selling to the highest bidder, not with supporting/sponsoring a semi empty GP (I'm referring to Turkey here, not the US :)).

He also own Le Castellet, but that track never came back as the French GP.

BTW: This year Bernie didn't even bother to bring his own motorhome to the Turkish GP. Some looked at this as a sign of his wavering support for the race. When asked, Bernie sheepishly commented that he was just trying to save a buck. Yeah right.

I think you will be eating crow with a lot of others. So maybe we need to get some good down home Southern or Cajun crow recipes in the works here. BigTex?

Let me google one up....it'll be filed right behind the delicious recipes for armadillo!!!

I'm thinking a large chicken fried steak at the Broken Spoke, from the cute little waitress that ejected me that night over "some trouble"........

    I think she's the owner's daughter!!
