My unstated opinion was that if B, who has a stake in the track, is bailing out then there is no hope for the Turkish GP.

Not really: As long as the Turkish government chips in the money, Bernie is happy and could even bail. But whether the government wants to do that forever is questionable since F1 is so unpopular in Turkey and the effect on tourism isn't that great (Istanbul is a magnet by itself).

I think ultimately it'll come down to whether there is a USGP to fill the slot or not. Bernie is trying to get the teams to 20 GPs per year, which he just might achieve (I hope he does), but the number of races is limited.

As usual Bernie has enough irons in the fire to move the schedule around if e.g. Turkey or Austin or both fall. Bon giorno Roma!

Fair enough... The doubter''s will eat crow if this comes off in 2012.

But if it doesn't, the cheerleaders should be prepared to eat a serving of steaming Longhorn BS...

I was a complete doubter until a site was anounced. Now I'm 50/50. But I love austin and would love to see it happen.

I'm just skeptical. I don't see how there is money to be made on this...

I don't think there is money to be made in Opera, yet these places still survive thanks to the generous donations of true fans.

I can very well imagine some oil rich Texan baron who loves motorsports and has an ego big enough to have "his own" F1 GP.

Tony subsidized it for a few years, so why not somebody from Texas?

A billionaire doing this for ego I can believe... To be a tooth fairy... unlikely.

I don't see Red McCombs doing this and not intending to make money...

So will they be getting rid of the trailer parks and the two liar loan communities that sit near the site now?

    I doubt it......they'll just sell non-authorized bootleg t shirts........no hologram seal!

That's actually "where the money is"........cash sales of trinkets.

It's really been no secret about the property, and Tilke's people have now been out there to massage and drop their 'trademark track of things we like" right onto a pasture with a chicken coop.

    Indy started out this way!!!!! :D :D :D :D

Another thing I have learned watching our downtown "Festivals" in Houston, the promoter handles the permits and environment, then leases to the 'vendors"...they could give a rat's azz if the Kettle Corn Booth makes HIS money or not, the promoter is prepaid.

So as millions of $$$ floats around it's the Big Guy, that ends up counting it, not the little guy. There's a subtle transfer of risk exposure, that occurs.

    Pass the butter!!! :D :D

Red McCombs is "on board" yet they are still seeking "additional investors".......;D

I could be wrong, but I thought during the Turkey GP weekend, Varsha said that Bernie signed like a 10 year deal with Turkey? Or was that just "talks" of a 10 year deal?

Combine that with 'McCombs isn't in it unless he makes money', and you have a investment that is contingent on securing other money that others want to risk, so ol' Red makes out just fine.

It was actually the one that teaches the Dance Lessons.....

I actually think I'm 'cool" with everyone now, after helping the bartender rehang the rear stage door.......

I showed the guy how to jamb a scrap of wood into the stripped mounting, to reuse the same screw..... :D :D

I'm just 'helpful" that way.........we didn't want the smoke drifting back in........
