When I bought her a month ago, I tried everything and all worked besides the radio but that's another story. When I turn the fan on (Heat or A/C), I get pieces of black/dark grey filter foam about the size of a penny or half that size. Is there a cabin filter that I can remove/replace? I looked in the repair manual and couldn't find anything. It looks like a stage 2 aquarium filter, it's the same material as the picture below but flat... I would say less than a 1/4 in thick..... Anyone have any idea where this thing is located? ~ Mario Image Unavailable, Please Login
You might be getting bits of the foam gasket that seal the evaporator box intake to the bonnet. There is a crappy piece of foam there (about 1/4 inch tall?) in rectangular shape that is support to go fully around the evap box and seal the are where the plastic scoop on the bonnet touches it. http://www.ricambiamerica.com/product_info.php?products_id=234513 (The price is totally insane! When my shop needed to replace the one in my car, I just about had a heart attack and asked if they could simply cut a piece of bulk foam instead. Sadly, I was in a hurry for something, and just ponied up the $$ for the OEM one. In any other situation, I'd try to cut one myself before forking that kind of dough back to the crooks who come up with this crap.... and I'm in the game too! That's how bad the foam gasket pricing is!)
Daniel, I think this is different. It is the same crumbly foam stuff that is used on the 308 and 328's too (just in different locations in the AC vent system). On the 328 it is on the back side of the AC condensor...might be same on the 348/355. I am starting to get peices of foam coming out the lower vents on my 355, just like I did on my 308 and 328. On the 328 the purpose of the foam was to catch the water that develops on the condenser, and allow it to get captured in the drain below it, and go down the tube and out the car. Without the foam, I had water coming out the lower vents occasionally when I ran the AC. Have not experienced this on the 355.
I've had the same problem. I don't believe there is a filter. It appears to be foam gasketing material that is dry rotting and breaking down. I've checked the external gasket under the front trunk lid and this gasket is fine. It must be coming from the AC duct system or evap/fan housing. I don't think this is an easy fix. If anyone has fixed this problem, please share your experience.
this made me laugh Ricambi America: The Ferrari Parts Specialists. Without borders. Without boundaries. Without limits. without limits... obviously this applies to the pricing of the parts... shift knob $600. shift know locking nut on ebay $7 (okay), but shipping is $7... laughable.
I don't think Ferrari would use open cell filter media foam for gasket material. As I previously posted, there is identical foam used on the back side of the AC condensor on the 328. Could be the same on the 348/355.
This foam is pretty thin....not like most filters I have seen, it's about half the thickness of a cigarette (yeah I smoke, but not in the car). It’s thin so it goes through the vents and having a tan interior, I can see this crap all over when a piece breaks off and spews it out in little pieces. It does seem possible that it was used to go around something as a shield of some type. I looked for it a few times and cant find where it comes from……… As far as price goes, if I can replace it, I'm not buying factory unless it's $10.00 or less. I have the same crap in my 50 gal aquarium filter. ~ Mario
# 44 - 62928100 TAMBOUR PROFILE GASKET (2) $8.59 each Could this be it??? the 355 has the same thing......(part # 44 for the 348) I forgot to mention, I pulled a big piece out almost the size of my Zippo lighter but again the same thinkness. I have had this car for a month, why do I always have weird **** happen to me ???????? LOL BTW Daniel (JRR) I have spent $1200.00 (w/$300.00 in fees from customs Canada) already for 2 orders in the last 3 weeks from Ricambi and I'm just getting started....ask Mike, I think I pissed him off with my Credit Card screw up from my wonderful crappy Canadian Bank !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I think I also spoke to you as well yesterday!!! ~ Mario Image Unavailable, Please Login
On the 328 it was attached directly to the AC condensor, and was not listed as a discrete part. To get the water caught on a "screen" like it was used in the 328 condensor, I simply used some rough Scotchbrite pad cut to fit, and I placed it in position on the back side of the condensor, sitting vertically in the "tray" that catches all the condensation. Worked perfectly, and no more water dripping on my leg. Since I never have water on my leg in the 355, I believe the foam is not really required, and the housing the condensor is inside, is properly catching the condensation and draining it away. The crappy foam is simply a hold over from the 308/328 design...
Fantastic, isnt it! Have a REAL good look in there Mario, I found rubbish, leaves and cigarette butts in mine one day.
Mine has done the same thing on my '94 spider. I've gotten only a few small pieces come out over the last two years.
Assuming #44 is the part in question, how do you get to it? Take out the trunk liner and remove the evap housing or are we talking about dash removal?
Somebody has had to have fixed this in the past. my 355 is blowing the foam bits now. Somebody have a link to thread where there's a procedure to do this?
