In the process of timing my F355. What appears to be a simple process on the surface is, in reality, a very time consuming procedure to complete correctly.
That said I am looking for recommendations to lock the cam gears to prevent “jumping” a tooth or 2 when the bolt is tightened to the WSM 98nm(if I recall correctly). I am confident belt tension itself is insufficient. Expensive experiment to find out!
    As always, Thank You.

I had the same concern when I did my major last winter.
I ended by inserting a small teflon shaft between the teeth of the 2 pulleys where they are the closest. They will self lock during the torquing, because they are rotating in the same direction, without stressing the belt. I machined the teflon shaft so that I can insert it on the full thickness of the pulley, and not only on the front face.

Thanks Eric. Nothing like a simple solution to a simple problem! I tend to overthink/ over-engineer.
    Ferraridriver. Neat Tool!

Fatbillybob, I used the cardboard under the cam caps to hold the cams in place during the timing procedure. I did not think they had enough clamping force to hold the cam gears from jumping at 98nm. Were you able to use this method when tightening the cam gear bolts on your 348? Thanks.

Done it the hillbilly way on ferrari's for 30 years now. Never a problem. Bring extra caps into play increases your torque holding. Never seen a good special tool for this job maybe because matchbook covers are free. Always leave a tail of cover exposed so you see it to remember to remove it. Bad things happen otherwise.
