Don't forget to mention the "Miami Vice Make-over Thread", http://www.thebestemployee.com/forum/showthread.php?t=281096&highlight=paint
Yeah, just stumbled across that thread...WOW Stephane, a real labor of love. The car is simply stunning to look at and listen to. It will sell in no time. ...drool...
I KNEW IT! its only time before his cars goes on the auction block. Hummm wonder what the next project is
I know, I know, I am stunned too. But it is just a car afterall. Albeit one of the best in its class, but I have been thinking about going back to my other "love", or shall we say the "dark side" (Crokett would be proud) More photos below. What happened to the Mondial? Is that gone too? Boy, you go thru cars like my wife goes thru shoes... Great looking car and GLWS. Ace
Stephane, You bought it, drove it to the shop for a tune up, drove it to the body shop for a strip down and a make-over paint job, drove it home and ... put it up for sales ? What gives?
Nothing, in fact, the car couldn't be anymore perfect now. That's usually how they all leave my garage, I just have my eyes on another aquisition. Let's face it, after 102 cars, I realized I am nothing but a car slut. I am still enjoying the MV car, and I won't mind if I am stuck with it for another 10 years.
There I am going through downtown in the Mondial when I look in my rear view mirror and see this wwwiiiidddddeee aaasss white Testarossa in my rear view mirror. We gave everyone in city market quite a show. The car really looks good!!!!! I was shocked to see you are already selling it. Jesus man you go through some cars. BTW the white is very striking and the polished stainless exhaust through the rear grill really looks good. I got a real kick out of seeing you. We need todo that again. Any Testarossa buyer would be a fool not give this car a serious look. Joe Frazar
Dear Ferraristi, Scale ! ....you are such a car whore... Take her out, buy her nice things, ride the ride then out the door you go... I don't go through women as fast as you go through cars. Sooo...Crockett asks....a Diablo again? Better not be a Murci I really think you need help. I have a friend, Britni (21) with a similar shoe problem. Perhaps you two can get together and sort it out. Just don't blame me if your wife kills you....on both accounts. Well, at least a great, well maintained Testarossa is out on the market. You can't get better than...do you know this car...umm....yeah, look at the Miami Vice makeover thread. Best luck with the sale Stephane. Shamile Freeze...Miami Vice !
As the past owner of this car, I feel compelled to add a few thoughts about this particular TR and while it may sound biased it is absolute truth. This car has the most complete documented history I have ever seen on any Ferrari before or since. It goes all the way back to 1985. The first owner of this car babied it and didn't drive it for years just keeping the miles low. The second owner was the well know Bob Hatch who is arguably the finest vintage Mercedes restorer in the country, This car was part of his collection(an indication of how nice the car is) The next owner was the guy I bought it from. He bought it with 19k miles on it, spent over 25K on servicing it, putting 16" wheels on it etc and maintained it to no expense spared level. He was a 60 year old ex wall street guy that drove it carefully and kept it in a garage he designed as a tribute to the car and his vintage Porsche. He put 10k miles on it included in that was one trip back and forth to FLA. The car never let him down. I finally bought the car at 28K miles and drove and maintained yearly, fixing and doing anything that it needed including a nearly 3K revamp of the a/c system with a proper 134a conversion with new dehydrator and check valve(you know the one under the dash-yes that one) After 4years and nearly 14K trouble free and very happy miles(never passed on an opportunity to drive it) I sold it to Stephane in a weak moment. The only thing it was due for was its scheduled major(which I believe Stephane has done). During my ownership I always drove it carefully and almost old lady like and based on what I saw from the previous owner, in the few days I spent with him, he was equally as caring. There are alot of TR's out there and many for sale right now. Some are priced more, some are priced less, none are this car-you just can't find the level of documentation and constant use(which is so important with these cars) that this car has had to keep it fresh over the last 8 years, in most any car out there(not to mention the beautiful cosmetics-non dyed interior, perfect non-pulled dash, perfect fuse box etc). The new owner of this car will pay a mere fraction of what has been lavished on this car in $$ over the last 10 years. With all its factory keys , books and beyond well documented history, it is beyond a no-brainer purchase for its new owner, and that is not even taking into consideration what Stephane has done to it in the way of paint, service and exhaust. If I had any ability, at all to buy it back, I would in a heartbeat, as I truly miss this car.
Jay, no disrespect, just an honest question: since this car was garage kept and so well maintained, why did it need a paint job, since he specifically bought it to repaint it white, from the original silver / gray? Reference : sorry guys, but repainted Exotics are a huge negative to me. I would rather have original paint and rust, than a color changed car. Reference : Newmans 308, this TR, several of the Boxers on here, i do not get the "excitement" over a repainted car. sorry, i do not mean to be disrespectful as you guys can do what you want with your cars, but repaints that change colors seem to be a thing to avoid with exotics. maybe its just me. again my apologies.
It's you. Newmans 308, seriously? You're kidding right. The most comprehensive and meticulous restoration of a 308 performed outside of the factory and you have a problem with the repaint? Cancerous rust bubbles in the paint is NOT considered patina. It's considered deterioration and adds nothing to the value of the car. It takes it away. You need to reread his restoration thread thoroughly. Color changes during vintage restorations are done all the time and are accepted if done correctly.
Surely if you want a proper Miami vice style TR then it has to be repainted from another colour (preferably black), to white?, after all, that's what happened to the original Miami Vice TR.
Jay, Thanks for the kind words. To be honest, I am having second thoughts, as I know there is no better flying car anywhere, I just got weak thinking about my true first love, and Cyndi gave me the OK as I can't have both, so I may or may not sell it, maybe I need to re-think this.
Shamille, You crack me up, you've always known I had a problem, much like Britni, but please, don't send her my way or I will have more problems The early Diablos are getting harder and harder to find, much like the early TR's. I am seriously looking for one but only the right one as I am more picky than ever, and no, I am painting another one
Evidently, Miami Vice must have been before your time Carreaper. I also think it is just you. Newman's resto was as proper as they get, as was this TR.
As with any discontinued car , if u want it a particular way then you have to change it ie color, I don't understand the anal Ferrari purists. This was a GReaT reproduction of a vehicle that many of us grew up admiring so I truly feel if any car deserves a pass , this one definitely does.
