Slick Shift Gate for 348

I just bought one from Daniel at Ricambi. Let me tell you I was the most skeptical about this product, but it does work!
I can assure you of that. Big difference in shifing

Yes it does work. I have one in Rachel. We've all in the past, stubbed our toe on a sharp corner of a doorway or piece of furniture while trying to get through - right? Well now the sharp corner is gone - no pain

 

It is well worth the money. Shifting is much easier, and the install is about 2 minutes.

How do you get the shift knob off? Mine feels like it's gonna break.

There a retainer nut under that you must loosen. I think 17mm.

I put one of these on and could not believe the difference.

 

No issues with mine at all. Upgrade your shift knob at the same time as the combo makes for a much better shifting experience.

 

This shift gate sounds good. Mine shifts great at the moment, but maybe I should get one of these also.

 

The best thing in the world. I had mine polished so it has a little more bling to it. I also updated the rubber shift boot as well. I hated looking down and seeing the foam crap. Just what I like though. My two cents.

It really works. It is worth the money. It is easy to install. It eliminates the "clack! clack!" sound of your old shifts that probably drive (pun intended) your passenger(s) nuts, though as a driver we get accustomed to it.

That shift gate is soft metal. You can even make your own slick-shift gate with a dremmel grinder in a few minutes by filing down your OEM shift gate if you want. I made mine substantially more aggressive than the Hill version, which is great if you have a good tranny oil installed...but not recommended if you are running on the OEM fluid as the OEM gate restricts the speed of your shifts to something closer to what the OEM fluid can handle.

One large advantage of the Hill Engineering slick-shift gate (over grinding your own) is that the new Hill gates have the reverse lock-out tab on them forcing a new driver (such as a valet or girlfriend) to push the gear-shift down an inch and a half or so in order to shift into Reverse...preventing accidental gear-grinds into R when trying to rapidly shift from 1st to 2nd.

 

I bought the slick shift gate and billet knob about 2 weeks ago--amazing difference. Knob feels "right" and shifting is easier with the new gate design.

Highly recommended.

 

It looks like brushed aluminum or stainless. You can polish it to look more like chrome as noted above. The screws that hold it down have an allen head and sit more flush with the gate IIRC.

Well worth the money in my opinion - it makes the shift into 2nd much smoother as the car is warming up. I also bought the chrome 47mm shift knob and it is a nice upgrade set for less than $250.

 

Worth it, much cleaner shifts. Hill engineering did a great job.

+1, I got one for my 328GTS and noticed no discernable difference. When I got my 355, I sold it to a buddy with a 348 for cheap....I sold him the gate and alumium ball for $125. But he's a good friend.

Based on that, I have never considered it for the 355.

 

How did you polish your new gate?

I polished it with my polishing machine at my shop (possibly can be done with a hand dremel, but not sure it's RPM's are high enough though). I figured I polish watch cases and bracelets everyday, and those are sometimes in rough shape and turn out really nice.
So I thought I would try it on my shift gate, it came out really nice.

 

Has anyone considered having it done in Carbon Fiber wrap so it matches the carbon fiber console pieces?
