Has that ever happened to an OEM Ferrari unit?

If it has, I've never seen it.

Whoever designed this reproduction didn't seem to have any concern for the grease rating or speed at which it would operate. Or, for that matter, the fact that the original Ferrari design doesn't merely cram 4 bearings onto the shaft and consider it "good enough".

Wow! Good to know. Of course, you can kill even the best waterpump bearing by overtightening the waterpump drive belt, so top notch parts won't save you from a bad installation.

was that waterpump from the same source, the current leaking ' genuine Ferrari ' 308 W/Ps are coming from ?

    Best Regards from Germany

    Martin

P.S.: never spent so much time replacing crappy 'new spare parts' within a few months like in 2010.

I suspect so, but forensics is not my specialty. ;)

o.k. thanks, but one of my hobbies :) At least regarding current spare parts quality ( not only Ferrari )
BTW; this is, what's inside the current 'genuine Ferrari ' 308/328 W/Ps.

    http://www.nbdaton.com/eabout.asp

Everybody's free to make his own conclusions.

Once upon a time; there were *** C3-bearings installed in the 308 W/Ps. Back then, when they were reliable.

    Best Regards from Germany

Your only seeing the tip of the iceberg at this point. When Price becomes the prime factor one has to look how low the bar can be moved.... its a moving target at this point.

Imagine trying to do this as a business where you have to warranty the parts you are installing but there is no warranty on those parts other than "we will give you another one".

Now put that in a 348 and use it as a cam belt idler roller. We took one apart recently that sounded like a blender mixing a batch of Margarita's. This nonsense has to stop and send this technology back to use on the 1980's Honda Civic's.

they won't take it, because japanese gear from the 80s has to be still reliable :)

    Of course! :D:D

When the cost of servicing costs a third of owning the actual car..................some people will go down the route of fitting cheap parts, or not replacing anything at all. :D:D

Imagine paying $10K for a service on a 355 that is worth $30K in 5-10 yrs time?:eek:

Imagine the opposite and the second number is much higher.... a cheap Ferrari looks better in the neighbors driveway.

Ferrari is the wrong marque for someone to do low/no budget work on regardless of the model. There are items in this market that are a very good value but one needs to question everything and find them. Logic has no place in a discussion pertaining to Ferrari and service costs.

PM Hell. Who thinks like that? If someone is building bad waterpumps then let everyone know it, don't hide it away inside private messages.

Not open bashing - more of a courtesy warning to others that "this might happen to you if you buy this product from ________"
