Holy crap! I need to vent......... So I get to Borders and buy "The Corvette In The Barn" today. It's right before 3:00 and I need to get my kids from their elementary school and my son's friend for a "hang out" (apparently not called a play date when they hit 10......oops). I decide to just go to their school and wait rather than go home and turn around and go back. So I get there 30 minutes before dismissal and park right up front in the parent loading zone. I'm the first one there and I'm in my just waxed 911. Alls good in the world until some 60 year old guy in an Impala parks in the lot in a parking space (the layout is one row of front to back spaces for those that want to walk up and the pickup line for those that will wait in the car for the kids and drive away). He comes flying up to my car and starts screaming at me to me move my car. I ask him what he's talking about and he starts screaming about the yellow curbing. I explain the parents are supposed to park here and ask him who he is to tell me to move my car. He screams "A concerned parent!!". I tell him I'm not moving my car and to go back to his. After 2 trips back to my car, I finally have to show him my badge and tell him he is working his into a problem. I then tell him to call the local police if he has an issue with my parking. He then goes back to his car, throws it into reverse, squeals his tires and flies backwards (across the only crosswalk) and comes within 2 feet of my front bumper! I thought he was so wacked that he was going to slam into my car on purpose. All of this going on with parents and kids EVERYWHERE!! While dealing with him, I had 4 different parents come up to me and tell me this guy is nuts and they've had issues with him. Apparently he picks up a grandkid at the school. The principal even came out and told this guy that he's wrong and this is how pickup is done at the school. The principal told me that the guy said "What! He thinks he can park wherever he wants because he drives a Porsche!! The PD showed up and he freaked out on them. If I was just a normal parent (and not a cop) I would have had the guy hooked up for disorderly conduct, if not assault for driving at me as if he was going to hit my car with me in it. The guy eventually demanded the cop's names and they told him to get lost.

I just emailed the principal and told him I expect something to be done with this guy. To have 4 other parents approach me about issues they've had shows he's a PITA that should not be at an elementary school. Not only that, but if my dad was picking up my kids and being an ****** at the school, I would want to know.

Sorry for the rambling vent fest, but I've been pretty hot about this one.

I'm afraid I have to agree with this guy Badges. Porsches can park anywhere! Sounds to me like you were "alarmed and disturbed". I'd have rung him up.

This economy has changed the way I do my job. We definitely are seeing more people that are at the end of their ropes and doing things that they would not normally do. This guy ramming my car would not have surprised me at all. I haven't carried my off duty gun in years, but with they way things have been, that will be changing also.

At the same time, there's just something magical about parking lots that brings it all out of people. By and large my son's pre school is under control--I'm one of only 3-4 dads who do the driving, the rest are moms. Our issue is, the lot runs all the way across the property, connecting two streets. Some cars wait in line, others park. The school asks people to enter one side of the lot and exit the other for safety reasons, much like a pit lane. Pretty simple, except half the moms come barreling in the exit while you're trying to leave. Also, apparently they feel it's only necessary to drive slowly until their own children are safely in the car, then it's balls to the wall time.

I found out today that it is the grandfather of a kid in kindergarten. So he doesn't even know how things work but he's ready to fight! It was nothing more than a power struggle for him. He thought he would just run up to my car and intimidate me into doing what he wanted. When I told him to get lost and I wasn't moving, he melted down. I was going to get there early today and park in the exact same spot but the boss (my wife :) ) told me to knock it off! LOL

Pity on the lil' tyke he's picking up.

    School needs to inform parents that Grampa Simpson is . . . rather . . . disturbing . . . the peace.

That's absolutely nuts. Please let us know if the school decides to take action against him.

As others have said, if I were you I would've had him arrested right there on the spot. :)

The principal called today and advised he had spoken with the parent of the child this guy was picking up. He advised her that her father was the subject of several complaints as well as my incident. He warned her that anything further from her father and he will not be allowed on school property. He also notified the head of the school district of the issue. He assured me that all of the staff was notified of what happened and they will be keeping an extra eye on him. Stay tuned................. Usually hot heads like him lay low for a little while, but his true colors will shine soon I'm sure.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but didn't badges2 mentioned that he did park at the "parent loading zone"? I may be wrong but isn't that mean for Loading and unloading children/passenger only? I mean if you sit there and wait for your kid doesn't that make it a parking spot not a waiting zone?

Reasons I'm asking is because when I was at the airport and if I'm not loading or unloading passenger, cops ask me to leave and they told me this is not a waiting or a parking zone. I don't know maybe it's different at the airport.

The line is for parents who are going to wait in their car and their kids come to the car. That way you don't have to park and walk up to the school to pick the kids up. The only stipulation is you have to stay with the car and the kids have to be able to get right in and go. In other words, you can get out and load their stuff in to the trunk or buckle them into car seats or something like that.

I was in the car the whole time.

Just a guess... is this the school off of Fabyan? I had to pick up my nephew there once and I think it's the same school.

Badges, I feel for you. I live in the vacinity of Sandburg and twice a day its total insanity. The parents challenge the principal all the time. Crosswalks and driveways mean nothing. What happened to walking?
