It seems that I hear very little and see even less of the most beautiful car Ferrari has ever created--the F50. The 288GTO, F40, and Enzo seem to always have a few for sale on the web....tons of threads about them....hell, I have NEVER even seen an F50 in person. I have seen 2 288GTOs, 4 F40s, and 2 Enzos in person. Do these cars belong to a very unique type of Ferrari owner that is unlike the rest of us who love to take our cars out and drive them? I would love to see one someday and hopefully convince the owner to take me for a spin!
Have you been to Ferrari of Vancouver, they just moved last month to a new location, the building is AMAZING ! They have a 288GTO, F40, F50 and an ENZO on display !
Over here in Hawaii there's this Surgeon who owns 5 supercars and one of them happens to be an F50. I saw it 10 years ago on his 5 car garage. Very beautiful car to look at. I didn't even bother to look at the other four. All I remember was looking at that F50 at every angle. To me it's beautiful. People who thinks an F50 is ugly they must have cataracts or they are cross-eyed! The only problem with this surgeon is that he never drives the damn car. It just sits there! By the way...it is the only F50 in Hawaii at that time!
You have to remember that out of the four, the F50 is the second rarest (only 50 were allotted for initial US delivery). The number of your personal sightings actually reflects that exactly, with the exception of the same amount of GTOs seen as Enzos. It makes sense that you have seen 4 F40s...over 1200 of them exist (I think). And while the 288 GTO trumps the F50 it in this area (I forget how few of them exist, but not a lot), something tells me that not only is the 288 a bit easier to drive than the F50, but is probably going to be more talked about when it comes out as a result of its rarity. Then again, maybe you just live in an area with a high concentration of GTOs. The F50 has been my favorite car since I was 12, and to this day I've only seen one. It belongs to a forum member from Kentucky and I drove several hours to see it at the Keeneland concours a few years back. He has since sold it and moved to Nashville, my hometown. Ironic. But keep searching! They are definitely worth whatever drive it takes. Beautiful cars. Don't listen to the weirdos who think it's ugly...
MY super Ferrari spottings: 6 Enzo's 4 F40's 0 GTO's 2 F50's. Don't know why. I know of two or three other than the two I've seen in FL. People just don't drive them anymore.
Not sure what your eyes are seeing. I guess to each their own but I would find it difficult to call this car ugly! I think it comes down to rarity. In terms of pure numbers you're always going to see more F40s, then Enzos and depending where you are in the world - either 50s or 288s. Not many 288s in the U.S. so seeing those cars is defintely a treat! Image Unavailable, Please Login
To me, the F50 is the only Ferrari that actually looks like a big shiny toy. I could sit and stare at one for hours on end if I saw one in person. Every time I see one in pics I get all warm and fuzzy! I have seen a YouTube video and the sound is simply breathtaking....whew!! I didn't realize that only 50 were slotted for US delivery, which is most likely why I haven't ever seen one. I know that there are at least 2 of them in the Portland area (Ron Tonkin & Paige Stevens), but I have yet to see one. Paige brought his down to C&C once last summer but I was out of town working. I can't wait to see one in the flesh--and I don't even care what color (although yellow is by far my favorite!).
Oohhhh!!! I just remembered that I will be in Dallas area Oct 1-3 as I won a sales contest to have a BBQ at my CEOs mansion (Top 20 producers in sales for the month of August--we have 4000 sales reps ) i'm willing to bet there is at least 1 F50 in the DFW area..... Anyone know of any brothers on FChat who own one?
There is one in Salt Lake at Steve Harris Imports, the local dealer, along with two 288's an F-40 and three Enzo's...so next time you are in Salt Lake.....
That picture should be made into a full sized poster, and framed!!! I saw an F50 once at a ferrari only show a few years ago. It is a beautiful car- one thing I like about it is it is a convertible Ferrari supercar....the experience with an open top has got to be amazing...that sets it apart from the 288/F40/Enzo. I would take any of the four and be quite happy
Blampee, the F50 is also on my list of have not seen. Even when we were in Monaco I thought I'd see one as there nearly as many Ferraris on the roads as Fiat 500's in paris! I guess the elusiveness of these makes them that more appealing too!
I think the F50 is a weird car. When it stand still it look like a boat resting upside down on a beach. But when you see it moving it quickly becomes one of the most beautiful cars in the world today. It simply look SO MUCH better when moving compared to standing still. I am lucky enough to have spottet all 4 Super ferraris 3 of them after Ferrari meetings though. The last one actually passed me on the motorway many years ago when it was still a very young car. I think it was in 1988 Seeing a 288 GTO going by at quite high speed was AMAZING!! I will never forget the sound as it disappeared into the horizon
Anyone who wants to see an F50, go to the Swap Shop in Fort Lauderdale. Preston Henn has his yellow F50 on display as well as his FXX, MC12, veyron, 275 GTBC, F40, 959, 935, 458, Daytona Spyder etc.. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Indeed!! When my wife and I were in Paris a few years back we were walking down the Champs Elysees and I heard from behind us this cackle of noise, amazing noise. Ripping toward us down the cobblestone like a pack of hyenas were (2) Enzos, an F40, a 288 and a 355 (in TDF). It literally took my breath away!!! No camera in hand but something that I will always remember!! I've got goosebumps just typing this!
That would have made for the most epic picture EVER! I could only imagine what was going through your head. " HOLY **** HOLY **** HOLY ****!"
I've only seen 2 F50's, one was at the track (parked, the owner drove it briefly on the track a bit later), and another one was during summer, on the road on his way to the track. I've seen a few Enzo's on the road etc, plenty of F40's and don't even mention the 'normal' Ferrari's...Living opposite a race track had something to do with it though suppose... Congrats mate!
Last time I saw a car like that one (very, very similar), it was hidden under some wrapping or something in a warehouse; owner probably thought it was ugly too.
The only time I've ever seen one in the flesh was driving on the road, when it blasted by me in the opposite direction. I had no idea we had one local. Come to find out he owned an F40 too, but sold both a few months back. Twas a beautiful day for sure.
I saw one in Ireland a few years back (S/N 102852, RHD, Ex-Sultan of Brunei) and and it quickly became clear that anyone that thinks this car is ugly has most likely never seen one in person.
