    That is hilarious! Porsche is generally one to be on its game but the desire to cash in on all these specials is amusing, even if making money is their number one priority and this is a clever marketing way of doing it.

    The Boxster Spyder is spot on, but this reminds me of one of those Saleen Mustangs that has a hard tonneau and a roll bar but is no different than all the others.

    I also think that the only cars that the PDK suits best are the Turbos. Someone would wants this should just get the Spyder or C2S Cab instead or both for less cash.

    Actually, Porsche still offers it (not sure about the 997 Speedster specifically). I think they may well end up being the last to write it off.

    don't get me wrong...it is a very nice 997. in fact it is as cool as a 997 can get especially w/ the blower motor.

    but...why did they have to call it a speedster?

    True, but those weren't really the defining traits of the original Speedsters (which had a flat cloth boot).

    Mostly it was about light weight through minimal content, low cost and track readiness (removable windscreen, competition seats, etc.) People bought them specifically to go racing.

    I think Porsche lost the script somewhere along the way.

    Oh you mean 356 Speedster, I was thinking of the late 80's early 90's :)

    It not entirely Porsche's fault, Laws require pedestrian safety bumpers that effect the appearance and emission control devices for pollution and exhaust for noise add unwanted weight etc. They are doing a good job given all the bureaucracy, we still have the option of buying a classic that meets our needs.

    I liked the 964 Speedster, and love the blue.

    But ... $265,000? What?! $80k or so more than the R8 Spyder? Nuts.

    that chart is very funny, very true, and very sad. despite that fact than many of these "limited edition" "special" models are fantastic cars it is hard for them to stay special for long and hard to retain any value when every week there is another limited edition. to me the CGT seems like the only really unique special edition of the modern p cars.
