Flavio Briatore, the disgraced former Renault boss, has said that Michael Schumacher's return to Formula One was "a mistake".

    Briatore is right about that.

I don't think the situation will improve, and I don't expect Shumachewr to be front runner ever again.

He will tarnish his reputation in the long run ...

I just don't get that. How? He is the most successful F1 driver to date (numerically at least). Everyone reaches a peak and then declines. If he'd never retired the same thing would have happened eventually.

true. why wouldn't he continue to drive. i'm sure he's having fun. certainly no pressure to win, just run the car around and show the sponsors name. best seat in the house.

I give him credit for trying but yes at this point you have to call it a mistake.
Funny how Flav keeps his name in the press. Almost as if he had an ulterior motive;)

    That is funny isn't it.

And today he denied that he had any plans to return to F1 . . .

I agree with you but: Look at some of the forums and you see a lot of folks questioning MS 7 titles etc altogether because now he offers a side to criticism.

Granted in the long run this is irrelevant as his records will endure longer than the peanut gallery.

As for Flav: I agree the comeback was a mistake but so what?

It was good for F1, for the fans and MB. And who knows maybe it was fun and helpful for MS too

Rubens might think it wasn't a good idea at all.

What worries me more is that MS has picked up bike racing again this week: I hope he is not going to hurt himself

Not that I wish him harm but there's less chance he'll hurt someone else on a bike. Nigel Roebuck made the observation after his squeeze on Bara that Michael seems to have no concept of his own vulnerability. I think he has a point.

It's too early to label his comeback a "mistake". He still has 2 years, 5 races left on his deal.

    Indeed

Granted it is only testing but it sounds like he is serious about it again

It is his life but boy why can't he do something with 4 wheels?

Schumacher is tarnishing his reputation. It's undeniable. People thought he was invincible before his comeback. Week by week he is proving them wrong.

Im not sure he is having that much fun..MS is a winner first and foremost and i would bet that he is very frustrated to not be playing at the same level as he was before...

His come back is proving that it was the car that won those 7 WDC ...

Pity, because I watched him from (particularly) 96-99 perform miracles in a Ferrari and the results were definitely caused by MS, not just the car.

OMG. In his heyday, he was invincible!! it's a team sport so OF COURSE it was the car too, but his work ethic and dedication was second to none.

If John McEnroe lost a match against Nadal, would that make him any less of a legend?

I just don't get how anyone can see it any other way, but that's what makes the world go round.

It's never a good thing to watch a top sportman like Schumacher staying too long and declining.

It's much better to quit at the top of your game and leave a positive memory behind.

oh well...we all have opinions. that's not mine. he might be off the pace, but it's not like he's crashing into people, constantly running off the road, making big mistakes etc. is he the best guy for the seat? maybe yes..maybe no....but he's not a disgrace either.

In my top twenty list of great motorsports competitors, I have more motorcyclists than auto drivers. JMHO, but running RACERS down because they are on motorcycles is a bit ironic for an F1 thread, is it not? Perhaps I just have a different definition of great when it comes to racers.

Mistake? I don't know. As Tifosi12 said it was good for the sport. Bad timing for the car choice? Maybe. Obviously everyone caught up with the "Brawn design" by the end of last year. Unfortunately the other teams continued to progress where Brawn and MB seemed to stagnate. I am sure the lack of testing is hurting him and his ability to come back up to speed and get used to the car - very different from when he left 4 years ago.

I do hope the car design is better next year and is more suited (or adjustable) to MS style.

This horse is dead. Four thousand times over head. Let's move on until next season.
