Greg as you can see from my previous posts, I'm a fair guy and don't mind taking up for the profession as a whole. I explained exactly what happened in detail. That said, I absolutely refuse to acknowledge or address someone as "sir" simply because he is in a position of authority. I tried to address him with respect and he acted like a fool. In return he got the same attitude he gave. I'm not going to recap, but I did nothing wrong short of saying "write the F'in ticket", and that has to be the "wisecrack" you refer to which was doled out long after his unreasonable demeanor. And if officers took everybody to jail for dropping the F bomb, there'd be a hell of a lot of people behind bars for things that seem to "hurt your feelings" or make you "feel disrespected". Like it or not Greg, there was no ticket given because there was no illegal offense. There was no arrest made because it would've made the officer look like a bigger ******* then he was, my attorney's would've demanded an investigation into the matter in which I was treated, the cop would've had something in his jacket to go with him throughout the rest of his career, OH, I MEAN TENURE...(more on that later :>) I would have sued the department for false arrest, flooded the prosecution with paperwork, and ultimately the whole thing would be dropped because he was clearly in the wrong! Don't side with a cop simply because you were one. To me, makes you look like the same ilk, but then again, you did say it wasn't uncommon for you to cuff a dozen people a shift...That sounds like SUPERCOP to me! How the hell do you have time to take calls from dispatch, get to the scene, question, cuff, transport to jail, and book a perp and do that 12 times a night? Sounds more like an ambitious badge probably pushing his weight around thrill-seeking than a professional & respectable civil servant. Again the laws of average say there's a few bad in every profession.

Of course then again, the more I follow the news, you Dallas boys seem to have quite a reputation for controversy don't you? Beating the absolute piss out of somebody on a motorcycle after making those comments over the video/audio feed from the scout car, I dunno giving Police escorts to a murder's funeral, a chief that should've stepped down from his post, and lippy officer who made several connotations about who I was and what I had which seemed more to me like contempt than it did invoking his authority professionally...AND I MIGHT ADD, Had absolutely NOTHING to do with his job or the situation.

And now Greg, the term "tenure" you used pretty much is the same sorta term I'd expect the officer in question to use. The word is full of arrogant snobbery. Tenure as you know or need to be told, is a position in which you cannot be fired from, and I guarandamntee you a bad cop can be fired. The cop that got fired for beating the piss out of the motorcyclist, was he tenured? Motorcyclist was guilty of felony evasion and they dropped the charges and he'll probably get millions from a civil suit. Personally I think he deserved to go to jail and have a record that affected him for life, till the jerk-off cop did what he did. Now he deserves to be a millionaire and drive his new F-car the same way with a vanity plate that says "DPDGIFT".

Sorry, but that's my two cents worth about how respect is given when not reciprocated.

    Oh, good link. Thanks. :)
Yes, I only have the one pair. I usually dont keep more then a few pairs of shoes around at any time.

My last pair were the G16's but I wanted something I could wear to work, and not look out of place.

Mike, thanks for the reminder. Yes, I am a civilianized Marine grunt.

Greg. All I can say without sounding like a punk kid is, wow. Really?

The opinions you expressed, how you expressed them, the wording, and meanings used, and implied have served to present yourself as a stereotypical power hungry, egotistical member of law enforcement.

It really does not matter what Tony did. He did nothing that warranted ANY response from the officer other then a look, and a "Sir! Please keep it under control!" or similar CIVILIZED statement. The fact that the officer felt any need to approach the car, in a brash and confrontational manner, and try to find trouble is what shows him to be a fine example of what the DPD has become.

You mention that you had a "short" career in the DPD, well, you are not the only one here that has worked with Law Enforcement. I worked closely with the Travis Co Sheriffs office, before I went into the Marine Corps, and I know I am not the only veteran of the Military, or Law Enforcement on this site. I am willing to bet that most of them can find a better way to have handled that situation.

I know escalation of force, I know how to diffuse a situation using a presence, not force. Things that an Infantry Marine is taught, things that enable us to handle a situation USING THE APPROPRIATE AMOUNT OF EFFORT. Things that are taught to Law Enforcement, or at least, were taught back when I was training with cops. I was never taught to approach a situation like that with anything more than a polite demeanor, and situational awareness to ensure my safety. I was taught that you NEVER engage a citizen with a combative attitude unless they have taken actions, or voiced intent that would require you to make the step to the next level of force.

    1: Presence.
    2: Verbal.
    3: Non Lethal. (hands, OC)
4: Less than lethal. (Taser, Bean Bags, Rubber shot, foam)
    5: Lethal force. (self explanatory)

The officers in Dallas seem to have slept through that lesson at the academy.

This reminds me of a story about nothing. The bottom line seems to be - No ticket was issued! Nothing - no warning, no citation, nothing.

In my experience, if you are polite to officers and treat them with respect, they will do the same to you - even if a ticket is the end result. Police will use any cause to run your plate and make sure there are no warrants or other reasons to not let you go. In this case, that appears to be what they did. Maybe they are looking for a Black 348 LOL. I doubt seriously that calling a lawyer on a Sunday (holiday weekend) had anything to do with not getting a ticket, but that is just my opinion.

What I can't figure out is why Tony stopped in the first place? If he was turning at a green light when he revved the car, why not just keep going?? That's probably what I would have done.
