Spent last weekend in a rental 458 and was quite impressed. So i inquired around as to slots available for ordering at msrp and was told not being a prior, current owner that ordering was not currently possible. But that there is a customer car for sale without the wait for 335k car is white/tan with about 80 miles showing. Do you think the market for 458 is strong enough to support that kind of increase
$50k over seems about market right now, but I think you will regret paying that much if you hold the car more than 8 months. Also, I expect you could order a car for the same amount over and spec it to your preference. Of course you would likely have a 6 mos. wait.
my buddy just sold his car back to the dealer and had to fight to get msrp back. I talked to 2 diff dealers in so-cal . both said sticker to buy the car. they selling for $20K to $50K over msrp at dealer. any more then that and you are getting ripped off. I would wait until 1 to 2nd qt 2011 and they will start to drop.
What dealers told you sticker for the car. I've know and have talk to all of the them in Southern California, including Beverly Hills where I bought my last two 430's, and no dice. They will not sell me a car at MSRP or I would have bought one by now.
Search this Thread for the poll on Actual selling prices. 80% pay MSRP, 10% more pay 5K over. Pay $50k over if you must and make the dealer very happy.
Wait 10 months and pick up a used 458 for 65K less than sticker. Ridiculous to pay 50K over sticker and take a 100K hit. I've got a bridge to sell you if interested.
You really think we're only 10 months away from a 65K discount? As one who's pockets are not bottomless I'd certainly like to think so, but that seems a little too soon to me considering the reception this cars has garnered.
Ignore 09 scud...review his posts and you will see he has no concept of car values. He believes scuds are going up,... while 458's are going down... simple reality... both are going down.
I would wait 12-18 months if possible. The 458 is still very new and will command high prices (over sticker). The same thing happens to each new Ferrari, remember back on the 430 release in 05. Crazy over sticker when they first hit, then the prices backed off somewhat quickly a year to two later. Patience is the name of the game. Dont be fooled into thinking you need to be the first one in your neighborhood to have a 458. That mindset is a losers game (financially at least). Unless of course you are an established client and ordered one at sticker many months ago.
$50K down a rathole. Just like those that were paying $50-100K extra for 599s in 2007. 09 Scud is not a reliable source. Taz Terry Phillips
Has anyone ever created a chart for depreciation curve on newer Ferraris ? I would think you see the greatest drop in value about 24 months out from new.
The factory is going to make an awful lot of them(20/30K) over the next few years. Magic number seems to be a 50K to 60K drop from the retail price on a one year used ferrari with moderate miles (2/3K). Still in the midst of a slow recovery, financing is limited and cash is king. When the spider comes out customers will be fighting to dump their coupes, flooding the market and getting raped on the trade in. The number of customers avalaible to pick up the slack on buying used ferraris is going to be written on a very small list. Low turnover in the secondary market equals lower prices to kick them out the door. Part of me wonders if the factory will be forced to buy back excess dealer inventory. To prop up resale prices in order to stop the dealers from flooding the market. The other choice would be for the factory to cut production to maintain pricing. Today, buying a new non limited mass produced ferrari is a complete waste of money. Even most limited editions are starting to take huge hits. Like others have said.......patience is the name of the game.
where ever I rather have a scud . over any mass production of 458 , remember f430 when they first came out it starting all over again, I would ignore Simon very much,
I've been pondering this quite a lot as brand new is out of the question. I figured 2 years for them to really find their level. I certainly hope so. Seems like forever now (and coming here and reading all your great postings is not making this any easier) but I know, in reality, once we get there it will seem like no time at all. I just have to keep reminding myself that patience is a virtue!
oh nooooo. what should I do??? My 458 will be worth $125K by December.....I will sell it to you today for $130K to avoid the plunge in value. Any takers? Otherwise, I guess I have to keep driving it and enjoying every second of it while everyone frets about how much of a waste of money it is to buy a new unlimited production 458.... also, 09Scud, put me on that ignore list with Simon....the world would be a better place...
wait 12 mo and they will be at MSRP to 15k below, when the spyder comes out they will take their big hit. And no the Ferrari market is not soft. "The sports car makers business expanded sharply in the first half of the year, with second-quarter revenue growing 8.6 percent from a year earlier, to 448 million, and operating profit rising 10 percent, to 77 million. Sales grew 20 percent in China and 10 percent in the United States in the period from a year earlier." http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/01/business/global/01auto.html?_r=1&=dbk
you misread his post... he said the dealer wouldn't BUY his car back for MSRP and had to fight to get it purchased back at MSRP...so wholesale seems to be right at or just a bit less than MSRP right now on these...
ya you said it you should be worry if you bought a unlimited production 458 and paid 50k over sticker price !!!! imagine the hit your going to take next year OMG, dream on buddy
You know, I saw the photos of your Scud and it is really beautiful car. Enjoy it in good health, but your comments to some of the others here are uncalled for, even though I don't think your a troll, there is a lot to learn on this site, so no point in making enemies on here. Best, Tony
