I knew that this month's "Caffeine & Octane" would be different when I saw the looming presence of Ferrari of Atlanta's transporter as I turned into The Avenue. Fortunately, I arrived early enough (7:20!) to get a space next to their cars.

The star attraction, of course, was the new 599 GTO. Here are all the photos I shot of the debutante:

The other surprise was the presence of TWO de Tomaso Mangustas, a rare treat indeed. They're both owned by the same gentleman; one is the Euro model with 4 fixed headlights, the other the U.S. version, with two rather ugly pop-up headlights. There were several Panteras on the premises as well.

Ugh. I can't believe I didn't get up for this... I guess Petit Le Mans really wore me out.

Thanks for the pics! I was anxiously waiting for them to trickle in...

P.S. I also saw your 328 at the Ferrari Corral, and the interior is still looking pristine!

Petit kinda wore me out as well, but when C&O is only about 7 minutes away, one might as well show up. The money spent on the interior is proving to be well spent. Thank you.

Of course, there were other Ferraris as well, some brought by FoA, who also brought the only Maserati at the show today. (Well, the Spice race car is only part Ferrari, but it's an important part!) And if you consider Dino to be a separate marque, well, it was represented as well!

    Nice Pics!

This may be pointing out the obvious, but the "355" beside the fiat 500 is a kit of some kind...

Damn I knew I should have gotten up early and headed over, and I might be closer than 7 minutes. Looks like it was a lot of fun!

Two cars which intrigued me: one is a rare Daimler Conquest once owned by the king of Iraq (!); the other is the first example of the new Honda CR-Z that I've seen, a car that I might just buy when it's time to replace the Civic.

And if you like "yaller", there was a group of vehicles just so painted, including a Ferrari, in close proximity to one another.

Believe it or not, this is just a fraction of the 140-or-so images that I took this morning. (And I was trying to avoid shooting cars that I'd seen before!) The whole lot will be in a Photobucket album in a few days.

Jim, Did you happen to catch the name of the Mangusta's owner

    Denis

Ps the Black is '70 and the red is '69 (or'68) Non-Euro ( has rear side marker / only used for N.Am model)

I thought something was off when I was checking it out, but the interior was so convincing... I'd be interested to hear more.

Not sure about "remarkable" Jim, that is a kit car, not a real F355.

I am a little concerned that this informal gathering has gotten too big and may start having issues with the property owners. In Jim's latest photos there is the FOA truck (love seeing it there but takes up a lot of room) and it looked like someone else had a tent set up and may have been selling something. It will be interesting to see if this gathering continues to expand thru the winter, if so they may need to move it somewhere else.

I think Jim was referring to the size difference between the two cars.

I wasn't there at the show - and would love to see pictures of the interior because this is a good kit - but you can see some differences: See the pictures for the comparison - Jim I just reposted your picture - I didn't steal it!!! The blue car was at Petit this Saturday.

The first thing I noticed was the side scoops are way to shallow
The front turn indicators are too boxy - looking REALLY bad
There are no vents in the hood just before the windshield wipers

Overall though, this is the best looking copy I have seen! It looks like they even used the true side mirrors!

And did you go to the Petit Le Mans on Saturday Doug? I think I saw you there when I was speaking with one of my old friends.

Oops! I didn't comment on them!

Jim! Great shots! I really like the white Countach and the Panoz AIV Roadster!

I saw your car at Petit and looked around but never saw you.

I find it pretty hilarious that there is an option on the 599 Sticker for a $700 "Handy Fire Exstinguiser" you would think that'd be an option on the 458!! :p

Yes, I , Jack Dowling, from Marietta, GA, am the proud keeper of the two Mangustas, and also a new member of Ferrarichat.

Interesting note on the 70 Goose, it is all original with 11,760 miles on the OD. It even has the original disclaimers on the windows!
