    A Jaguar but also part of Lamborghini's (forgotten) history. Although the Marzal is generally considered as the real Espada-prototype you can’t deny the Pirana had a big influence on the final Espada design.

    Last trace I had for this car were the period from the Daily Telegraph.

    Anyone who knows where this car was during the last 40 years? Has it ever been for sale before? Did it ever made a public appearance?

    Hi guys,

    Help! The Espada bug has bitten me, and it is getting worse and worse.

    I own a 1974 Dino 308GT4, which I absolutely adore (and prefer in looks over the Pininfarina styled 308 GTB/GTS). I drive mine hard and often - averaging nearly 10,000 miles per year, 90% of which at over 5000 rpm :D:D.

    I have some questions on the Espada:

    My Dino is a true racer, especially after I've rebuilt (and upgraded) the suspension. I've once taken it on a drive to see a Ferrari 400 (with manual shift and Webers, so the most desireable one) that was for sale. I drove the 400 extensively and the best thing about that day was the drive to and from there in my Dino. The 400 was a disappointment. It drove like.... an old BMW. And since I already own an old BMW....

    How does the Espada drive??? Has anyone driven both the Lambo and a 400? Or a Dino for that matter. Or an old BMW... I'd LOVE to hear how it drives. Okay, it's a majestic tourer, but what happens once you find a winding country road? Does it feel big and cumbersome, or does it thrink around you and become a surprisingly agile sports car? What happens if you throw it in a corner? Will it understeer madly with that big V12 up front? Will it wobble and lean over like mad? Can you cure both these by feeding some power and pushing it through the corner, or will that lead to an intimate encounter with some local tree?

    And another question: I've always been told that V12 Lambo's will drain you wallet even faster than they accelerate, but I've heard that about my Dino as well. And guess what -it doesn't. (The fact that I can do my own work helps a lot). How expensive is it to drive? How is parts availability? Yes, it's an early 1970's Italian car, so the electrics can be a bit of a laugh, and body panels can become quite crispy if you're not paying attention, but how about engine and drivetrain parts? Any really expensive weaknesses there? And what mpg can one expect? My Dino doesn't really excel there (14 mpg). Will this be worse? (with fuel costing $7.50 per gallon here, and 10,000 miles per year, this is not entirely trivial).

    Again on ebay. I real do like the orange with what looks to be green leather. Very much with the times. I kinda reached out to the seller and join here so he can get some feedback on the price and condition. He should also check out VLG on yahoo. Nice original car. However the tires must come off as they are the equivalent of having a bomb on the car. No tires more than 6-8 years old on car, please.

    Hans,

    My first exotic was a 308GT4 which I owned for 12 years and I too loved the car. It's an enormously capable and under-appreciated car. I have an early S1 Espada that I have owned for six years and enjoy very much. I just finished doing a major service, so I can likely answer a lot of specific comparison questions for you. Suffice to say that the Espada is an entirely different car from the GT4. Where the GT4 is nimble and go-kart like, the Espada is much bigger, heavier and requires strong forearms to muscle it about. (At least my non-power steering car does.) The V12 engine makes such a beautiful sound, and you can share the experience with three other adult people! (Not one adult and two small children as in the GT4.) I really don't believe there is any vintage 12 cylinder car that will give you the kind of handling and enjoyment at every-day road speed as your GT4. The Miura is close, but it is still a chore to drive in the city and does not have the great visibility you have in the GT4. The Espada is my choice for delivering the classic V12 experience at a reasonable entry cost. Feel free to PM me with specific questions.

    ohhhhhh, that car. Fell in love with it way back. I'll be comin a knock when I want to buy one. The color combo one of the best.
    Did you restore the interior? Is there the perforated holes? How long have you have it and what work have you done? I ask because I may pm you for cost of some things as I have an Espada in mind that needs some work, especially on the S1 interior.

    The car was restored in the early '90s. The previous owner bought it in California, a solid original car but with one of the wacky Lambo color combinations. The car was taken apart and redone in black with new biscuit leather interior and carpets. I talked with the guy who's shop did the interior and he said, "Oh yeh, I remember that car alright. Lost my shirt on that one!" I guess it took lots of hides and the french stitching around the instrument cluster was a real bear. They chose not to replicate the vent holes on the seat backs because the PO thought they looked cheesy in their mis-aligned pattern and wanted the seats easier to maintain. At first that disappointed me, but getting an early car with the operable quarter windows on the doors, the tail window louvers and the spring balanced hatch window made up for it. I've had it six years and just finished a major engine service including carb re-builds, new fuel lines from filler cap to carbs, valve adjustment, cam chain tensioner adjustment, water pump re-build, new ignition, new clutch, PP and flywheel, ceramic coated headers, new wrinkle finish on cam covers and ac bracket, etc. She really sings now!

    Can someone post a pic of the correct lighter out of the socket ? oh and if ya got one extra laying around..... tried one out of a fiat off ebay for cheap but didnt fit

    For what it's worth, I had a hard time figuring out the lighter in my Countach. I pulled, yanked, pliers.....then came to the conclusion that you press it in and when it pops up, you put your cigarette, cigar, dubey, etc down in it to light it.
