Yes, flexible with a thumb activated articulation of the last 1" to about 110 degrees either direction. My Milspec one is (Change, was) 7 ft flexible with broken fiber optics from the knot heat trying to fix it. I just pulled the hard case off the shelf and see that is empty.... some days.... guess I write that one off all together.

I have an Olympus OTV-S5 with the cabling and eye piece adaptor, an Olympus BF hand piece the 24" flex shaft is connected to and a AC10-L (what ever that is for)..... what else do I need to put this contraction together to view in a video monitor?

Going to the ER to visit a Boulder Cop friend tonight and I will poke around and see if I can find one all together. Last time I had the ER Dr's 550 in here he picked it up and said it had fewer dead spots than the one in the ER... I think I have 3 or 4

Had to have a few ER Dr's work their majic to get the flex forceps... One I left the biopsy knife on, the other I removed it to pick up plug clips. Hard to get?

The AC10-L is a light source adapter.
If you can see an image with your eye then you should be able to adapt a digital camera to it. and feed to a tv. I have made several special adapters using a chunk of black delrin turned on a lathe to fit the eye cup with a set screw and a bore on the other side to fit the OD of the camera lens. Make it so you can move it in and out to aid focus. OR you can buy a used micro coupler to fit from Plaza Medical, Inc. 9780 E. Girard Ave. Denver, Colorado 80231 E-mail- [email protected]. They are car guys and would like helping you out they might also have some other things you might need, like the forceps and stuff.

Feds will NOT allow purchase of true laproscopic boroscopes without a valid Medical practitioners liscence.
I have an MD tag which is what is required to obtain equipment such as is being described.
While it may seem to be extravagant overkill, these items elevate optical clarity to a dergree not known in automotive arena.
Miliutary/Defence contracting is the only other, tightly regulated industry wherein this sort of equipment is afforable based on the cost/liability for failure analysis...

A qhuality unit with light source has typically run 15K and above, so, dont waste your time unless you have access to one and are willing to pay the freight, so to speak-or, just pay for the service....expensive toy unless you will-as do I-use it daily/weekly...

I bought an Olympus PF10S sigmoidoscope for about $600 several years ago on ebay and a CLK10 fiber optic light source with some cable instruments, from a vendor in NY for about $300. The scope has 5-6 black spots (broken fibers). The sheath was not perfect but good enough, and the thumb wheel brakes wouldn't hold properly. It remains a useable instrument for my purposes. The optics are very good. I wish I had a suitable camera adapter.

Later, I also purchased a colposcope (OB/GYN operating microscope) off ebay for close detailed work for about $300.

I have also purchased syringes and needles, for accurate mixing of small batches of polyester resin, off ebay.

The sellers in all cases were not really worried about me setting up a medical practice. I am not an MD. I did explain to the vendor in NY that I wanted the equipment for automotive work, which was not problem for him and he offered to provide repair services if necessary.

There are legitimate non medical uses for this equipment, although I do joke about doing colonoscopies for cut rate prices. No takers yet, LOL.

Agreed on both points and I too use it daily. Yesterday was the tipping point as I have a Tubi header with a leak in it and these eyes are just too tired to stare into that eye piece for hours looking for the source. My quest for the final component, the monitor, commenced yesterday afternoon. The folks I am dealing with now know full good and well that I have no want to stick that scope anywhere I do not have business sticking it. Only because of this they are helping me with the monitor. The purchase of the scope.... that was difficuilt and required MD help from a good friend. As stated by 335's, quality of this level costs real money but there is nothing equilivent in our industry. As every time I have loaned it out it comes back with more battle scars.... it has left its enclosed cabinet for the last time.

Upside to my unpacking all of the components to revisit this project, I found my MilSpec 6 ft long scope in another box. I suspect it will be too expensive to have this repaired just to have a spare unit but one never knows until they try.

On a (sort of) related note:

I am curious if anyone in the community has experiance with this inspection camera, and if so, does it have adequate resolution for internal engine inspection.

    http://www.securitymaninc.com/product/toolcam.html

It is available for ~ $200. Or is it a case of "you get what you pay for"?

    Cheers and thanks.

That is my experiance on this topic. There have been vast improvements in the last few years but not to a level I can use with confidence. 335 said it best, pay for the service unless you have a constant need.

I recieved my monitor yesterday and now have everything set up as video feed to a 19" surgical monitor.....absolutely incredible. Nothing under the 308 all the way to the current models intake plentium is now free from our prying eyes, no more guessing. Anywhere a 6mm flexible shaft can go... so can I.

I have bought a number of running, driving Ferrari's over the decades for less than I am invested in this set up but this will once again change how we service these cars!
