I remember the days when there was always the feeling that one of us would not make it to the next race. When we lost team mates, it hurt hard. It still does. That feeling never gets lighter, it's the same feeling - an emptyness that feels like we all lost . My prayers go out to Nicolas, a fine driver and one of us. Allen
Also a long time customer of mine. I painted watercolor portraits(and team shirts) for Mr. Zapata of both his 625 and SWB. Met him at Monterey/Pebble years ago to photograph the TR. He was always the consummate gentleman. Very knowledgeable enthusiast and it was always a delight to talk cars with him. RIP my friend, you will be missed.
Nicolas was a long time friend and client of mine. We shared a similar passion - wine (not cars). Nicolas was a big fan of Paloma Merlot, Diatom and Brewer Clifton Chardonnays. He was a very sophisticated and passionate person. I am going to miss our long conversations. My sincerest condolences to the Zapata family and all of his friends around the world. RIP my dear friend, I know you are in a good place! Sincerest condolences, Frank Melis Golden Gate Wine Cellars San Francisco, CA
Thank you all for sharing the pictures and nice memories of my father. In the name of the family, I thank you all for your most kind words of support. They are greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Nicolas
I am sorry for the loss of your father. I did not know him, but I saw him at the paddock and on the track at Goodwood last year, and his enthusiasm and competitive spirit were obvious.
For us mexicans that love vintage cars he is our top representative in vintage racing he enjoyed his cars racing them throughout the world as no one in Mexico does, I was proud of seeing the mexican flag on the side of his Ferraris and always in the front spots. Here is a picture of his 288GTO wearing mexican plates in Switzerland http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=138186999&postcount=2369 We have a Mexico forum and we would love to hear about your dad and his amazing collection.
Very, very sad, again one person less who used the ferraris for the reason they are born: racing. I hope the wonderfull collection of racing Ferraris will be raced by a successor in the spirit of Nicolas Zapata.
Rest In Peace one year later I found this thread here's the bad old news he was driving a vintage sports car as usual http://www.laexplosiva.com/principal/index.php/2010/10/mueren-dos-en-choque-en-la-mexico-toluca/
