No idea what happened, but hope everyone is OK. What's with the pic of the two OPP cruisers at that intersection? Were they harrassing people? R
Fair enough. I think the forum needs to know if the route and conditions were safe for such an event. As far as I am concerned, any drive on public roads resulting in 3 "mishaps" is not acceptable. I participated in the first part of this drive and would like to know if such events are safe???? Gentlemen, this event was a total failure, safety is paramount. there were a few drivers with their children as passengers. Am I crazy to be concerned. Can someone PM me with a little more info Thanks
Yes, you're crazy. It was nothing major. Moving on, that was a great shot of Mario's 355 from behind.
won't comment much of it.... but the roads were more than safe and was a well planned out route, unfortunately things happen and weather was definitely a big case here.
I've been on drives organized by Mario, Esteban, even Quesnel... all of the drives were organized, safe, successful, legal, and more than everything, fun. Sometimes, accidents occur, because that's just what they are, accidents. The chance of an accident occurring on one of our drives is no more or less than the chance of me walking out the door and getting hit by a bus tomorrow morning (*knocks wood*). That being said, relax. No one totaled a car, no one was injured, and NONE of the mishaps happened because of negligence. I think we should drop the issue now, in the best interests of all those involved.
I figure I might as well post since it seems everyone is emailing and/or facebooking pictures my car anyways Yes I ended up in a ditch. The people in that stretch of the cruise were nothing but supportive and helpful. The tow truck driver was nothing but patient and worked with us to ensure nothing happened to the car. As such, there is not one single piece of the car damaged. No dents, scratches, cracks, broken parts, nothing. We got the car out and it drove as straight as the day I got it. No one was injured, no other cars were involved. This was 100% related to weather, road conditions, temperature, etc. It was also not exclusive to our vehicles. Numerous cars and trucks had problems on the same stretch. The theory is that there was an oil leak that mixed with the cold rain on the road that played havoc with dozens of vehicles. We were not speeding and quite the opposite, we were very cautious and safe during this stretch. It was a fluke and nothing could have been done to avoid any event that took place. We drove the exact same road two weeks earlier during the Appleby College cruise and nothing happened to a single car. The route was solid.
That route? Oh... those roads were nice. Did you happen to hit the patch where a couple of us got a bit of air on the Appleby cruise? Also, glad your car's okay.
I had a great time, the turnout was amazing and the people were super nice. Thanks to Esteban for organizing! I'm glad to hear no one got hurt in the 2nd leg. Re:hints that somehow the drive was not safe or well organized. I belong to two clubs, the Southern Ontario Mini Club, and the Ferrari Club. Difference. About twney years in age and driving experience. Mini guys are nice guys, but there is usually some carnage. Basically driver error. As an insurance broker, I have to say that the Mini Cooper I own is more expensive to insure than my Ferrari. I've adjusted my deductibles so that I am not claiming the small stuff. But it is more than that. Ask yourself how much better you treat your car, than say a Mini? How many of us are taking our cars to Walmart and parking with all the other traffic? How many of us are aware perhaps of our own mortality now than when we were twenty? So it never occurred to me that a Ferrari drive would not be well executed. I would have no hestitation being around these guys, with or without my son in the car. We cannot predict road conditions, and we cannot know if there was oil, or debris on the road before hand. This is just an unfortunate circumstance, it could have happened to anyone, driving any sort of car. I am just pleased to read there were no injuries, and the car is fine. Rorie
Thanks Bob for setting records straight. I will echo greatly what he said about caution and safety. Chris
